GENERAL SLATE THOUGHTS
8:05 AM ET: Well, I am back in the saddle after an enjoyable and relatively relaxing All-Star Break. I make my return to an eight-game Friday night slate that, on the surface, looks like it doesn’t have too many moving parts.
But as we saw yesterday, even a week off in the NBA doesn’t guarantee that all healthy bodies will be playing. The Blazers had travel problems, which I can only assume is why Damian Lillard and Jerami Grant got ruled out. Fred VanVleet wasn’t on the injury report at all until right before their game; he went from questionable to out in about 11 minutes. Yesterday was a subtle reminder that we can never truly relax until a game has locked. And you best believe the NBA news cycle in March and April will not be so subtle!
We do have four teams on the second night of a back-to-back tonight, so let’s look there first to see if there might be anything slate-altering when injury reports are released later today.
