Hittin' The Nuts: Squirrelpatrol's NBA Lineup Advice - Tuesday, January 9th

HittinTheNuts

Want to hit the nuts and take down 1st place in these massive contests posted by FanDuel and DraftKings? Who better to walk you through their favorite NBA DFS picks than Squirrelpatrol! Undoubtedly one of the best DFS players in the game today, Squirrelpatrol has accumulated 90+ Live Final seats, won the FanDuel 2021 World Fantasy Basketball Championship for $500,000, and most recently, took down the NFL Milly Maker in Week 2. Should we roster the chalk picks? How off-the-board should we get in large-field tournaments? Squirrel answers all of these questions and more below!

The NBA season continues on Tuesday with a very interesting 5-game slate that has injury situations in almost every game. We have two games tipping off at the 7:00 PM ET slate lock, with Minnesota in Orlando to face a Magic team that is missing Franz Wagner, Wendell Carter, Gary Harris, Joe Ingles, and Jonathan Isaac, and Sacramento in Detroit facing a Pistons team without Cade Cunningham.

At 7:30 PM ET, the Trail Blazers tip off in MSG against the Knicks, and we have some question marks on the Portland side, with Matisse Thybulle and Jabari Walker both listed as questionable.

At 8:30 PM ET, we have the Grizzlies, now without Ja Morant for the rest of the season and with Jaren Jackson listed as questionable, facing a Mavericks team without Dante Exum and Dereck Lively.

The last game of the night tips off two hours later, as the Raptors without Jakob Poeltl face the Lakers (with LeBron James carrying his traditional questionable tag).

With so much injury news and starting lineups up in the air, I’m going back to our original High Flyers format for this one, as it lets me squeeze in all of the injury situations nicely. Let’s sort through it all and figure out what to do with our DFS lineups.

High Flyers

Who are the players I’m picking first for my squad? These guys are the first selections for both my cash game and tournament lineups, and I’ll sacrifice elsewhere, if need be, to ensure I get them in:

Anthony Davis
FanDuel: $11,300
DraftKings: $10,100

Jakob Poeltl missing tonight’s game has a surprisingly big impact, as Poeltl leads the post-Anunoby trade Raptors in defensive rating, and it’s not clear who on the team will be able to guard Anthony Davis. Davis has put up 57.8 DK points per game over the past two weeks, higher than his 54.2 average for the season, and he draws a sneaky good matchup with the Raptors missing their starting center.

Davis is a bit tougher to fit into our lineup on FanDuel, but with the extra point for blocks and steals on that site, he is very much in play on both sites. LeBron James is bit easier to fit into lineups on FanDuel at $10,000 (like Davis, LeBron is playable on both sites), and with the Raptors starting lineup in flux and this game starting late, I don’t mind the idea of pairing LeBron and/or AD with a Raptor or two, providing maximum roster flexibility for later in the night.
