NBA DFS Showdown Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Saturday, May 2

Editor’s Note: Jayson Tatum has been ruled OUT.

DraftKings

Who are your three favorite Captains, ranked in order?

tcsmith031: Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Joel Embiid
Krayton: Jaylen Brown, Payton Pritchard, Joel Embiid
Bobby Gomes: Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Tyrese Maxey

If you plan to take an underweight approach with one of Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, or Tyrese Maxey, which one will it be and why?

tcsmith031: None of them are comfortable fades, but I’m most inclined to come in under the field on Maxey. I’m expecting Boston to bounce back and win this game at home. Tatum has been excellent throughout the series, while I think Brown is likely to bounce back in this one after a few rough outings. Maxey generally has a wider range of outcomes than Embiid, so I’ll opt for the relative safety of Joel if I’m choosing among them.

Krayton: It’s always difficult fading one of the top stars on the slate. However, Jaylen Brown is going to be the guy I am underweight on. Jayson Tatum has been leading his team through this series against the Sixers and putting up great numbers. Both Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey have been playing well in this series and are both guys I want exposure to. I would rather take chances on guys like Baylor Scheierman, Payton Pritchard, and Sam Hauser in the Boston offense to get different.

Bobby Gomes: With Jayson Tatum ruled out, Jaylen Brown actually flips from my easiest fade to one of my higher-confidence plays — usage and touches funnel directly to him in that scenario, and the field will be slow to fully reprice him. So I will be underweight on Joel Embiid. The narrative will push him to elephant-in-the-room ownership since he’s the lone true centerpiece left on either side. I’d rather take the Brown/Maxey duo at lower relative ownership and redirect Embiid CPT/MVP exposure down to the Boston role-player tier, where Ball Knower has been ahead of the field on the L5 minute trends for Hauser, Scheierman, and Pritchard.

What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?

Robert Brown (Epignosis)

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
