Who is your favorite contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
Notorious: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – I also like Giannis Antetokounmpo as a low-pOWN% tournament play (who you can pair with 2-3 Wolves), but this feels like a game where SGA and the Thunder need to make a statement. The Spurs have already beaten this team three times this season. Last year’s MVP needs to come out and prove that he’s the best player in the league. His price has come down a bit, which makes him that much more enticing. It’s not a good matchup, but I’m buying into the narrative here.
headChopper: Alperen Sengun — Sengun is one game removed from a significant ankle injury that was expected to sideline him much longer, but with the team scuffling, he returned sooner than anticipated. He got that first game back out of the way and has since had a couple of extra days to rest. Chicago has allowed the 5th-most points per game this season and has given up production from all areas of the floor, including the 6th-most points in the paint. They also allow a top-10 rate of steals and blocks due to their desire to push the pace. Sengun leads the Rockets in points scored in the paint and also averages more steals and blocks than any other Rocket, giving him a strong floor tonight if he’s truly healthy.
ncorfield8k: Kevin Durant – KD has played at least 37 minutes in 6 straight games. If the Bulls can keep it close, I would expect that streak to continue. He’s still a great point-per-minute producer, and he has a strong matchup. The Bulls have ranked 13th in pace and 17th in defensive rating over the last 10 games. Better yet, they’re the best matchup for Versatile Forwards in our Defense vs. Archetype tool.
