NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Monday, January 15
Who is your top contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
Notorious: Donovan Mitchell – It’s funny how ownership works in NBA DFS. Mitchell is only projected slightly worse than some of the other superstars on the slate, and his pOWN% is less than 5% on both sites. The Cavaliers have a pace-down matchup against the Bulls but still have a team total that is close to their season average. Mitchell has averaged 51.5 fantasy points in games that Darius Garland has missed and should soak up the usage once again.
squirrelpatrol: Jalen Williams – Williams is another player from the OKC/LAL game that I’m interested in who could get a significant boost if SGA ends up sitting. Williams is averaging 19.1 points, 5.7 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals over 7 games in the month of January, his highest monthly averages in each category this season.
eys819: Kristaps Porzingis – I will have a ton of exposure to Jayson Tatum and Derrick White, but they project to be popular. Porzingis is a great pivot as a way to get exposure to Boston and avoid some pOWN%. He has not seen as big of a bump without Jaylen Brown as Tatum and White, but he still has 50+ fantasy point upside. He is coming off a 34-10 performance against OKC and has another great matchup.
TastefulTides: Anthony Davis – He is currently projected for under 10% ownership on both FD and DK. Davis has a rebound prop of 12.5 at most books and 13.5 at a couple of others. The Thunder are one of the worst rebounding teams in all of basketball. As much as I love Chet Holmgren, this is a matchup he is really going to struggle with. AD will be my top overall play on the slate if SGA is ruled out.
