NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Thursday, December 21

Who is your top contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Bojan Bogdanovic – Let me preface this by saying Bogdanovic is currently not contrarian when it comes to the ownership projections at the time I am writing this. However, there are a lot of key players listed as questionable. I expect Bogdanovic to have a much lower ownership projection by the time lineup locks rolls around. You know I like a good revenge narrative, and Bogdanovic gets to face his former team at home tonight. The Jazz have been one of the top matchups for production this season, and the Pistons are looking to snap a 24-game losing streak.

squirrelpatrol: Victor Wembanyama – The Bulls have had trouble on the glass this season, giving up the 9th-most rebounds to opponents in the NBA with the 9th-worst rebounding differential as well. Devin Vassell is the Spurs’ 2nd-leading scorer, but he is questionable with an illness, which could put even more of the offensive production on Wembanyama’s shoulders tonight.

headChopper: Tyrese Haliburton – This game could be fireworks, as most Indiana games are. The price tag on Haliburton is driving his ownership down to less than 3% (early projections) on each site. Haliburton’s ceiling is unlocked when he gets hot from 3-point range. He shoots over 42% from 3-point range this season on 8.3 attempts per game. Memphis is allowing a 39.3% mark from 3-point range to opponents this season, which is dead last in the NBA.

TheLuuch: Victor Wembanyama – Wemby is too cheap on DraftKings, but he’s still not projected to carry a ton of ownership. In December, he’s averaging almost 5 more rebounds per game and 3.7 blocks per contest. The Bulls play slow, but they rank in the bottom third of the league in defensive efficiency and yield the 8th-most FanDuel points to opposing centers. Wemby just dropped a 60-bomb on Chicago earlier this month. I love the idea of pairing him with Coby White. The icing on the cake here would be if Devin Vassell doesn’t play, as he is one of the few Spurs that eat up some usage.

tcsmith031: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – The Thunder have a lofty implied team total of their own (120.5) at home against a potentially road-weary Clippers bunch. If the masses will be paying up for Ja Morant, I’m happy to try and find the extra cash to get up to SGA in some tournament builds. He’s been dominant all season, averaging 1.59 DK FP/minute on a team-leading 32.6% usage rate. SGA brings a high floor and ceiling to the table, and $10,200 on DraftKings is particularly affordable.
