NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Tuesday, January 9
Who is your top contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
Notorious: Isaiah Hartenstein – Don’t look now, but Hartenstein is playing his best basketball of the season. He has scored over 40 fantasy points in each of the last 3 games and has averaged 45 fantasy points per game during that stretch. He should see a matchup boost with Deandre Ayton expected to miss tonight’s game. Hartenstein’s playing time continues to trend upward. It doesn’t look like many are willing to pay a premium for him tonight, so it’s not hard to be overweight on the field.
squirrelpatrol: LeBron James – James is carrying his standard questionable tag tonight, but I expect him to play, and he draws the same sneaky good matchup with the Raptors missing Jakob Poeltl. With the Raptors starting lineup in flux and this game starting late, I don’t mind the idea of pairing LeBron and/or AD with a Raptor or two, providing maximum roster flexibility for later in the night.
headChopper: De’Aaron Fox – Perhaps this game being in Detroit can help keep this thing semi-close. Even if the Pistons can’t, the Kings should score enough through 3 quarters to finish favorably in DFS scoring. Domantas Sabonis looks to be the more popular play on the Kings, so I don’t mind going against the grain and playing a low-owned Fox instead.
Stevietpfl: Anthony Davis – Davis has a tough matchup against Toronto, but these are the types of matchups I like to roster him. He should play 35+ minutes in a close game. He has scored at least 65 fantasy points in his last 3 games against tough defensive opponents (Miami, Minnesota, and Boston). It’s a small sample size, but I think Davis has a high ceiling in these matchups. He’s currently projecting for some of the lowest ownership among the studs on this slate.
