NBA DFS Core Plays LIVE: Tuesday, January 16th

A daily fantasy sports OG, Notorious has been roaming the DFS streets ever since they were invented. He has racked up multiple live final seats and several six-figure tournament wins in his DFS career, and Noto will mix it up in all different types of contests. So, who better to walk you through the madness of an NBA DFS slate? Core Plays LIVE will zoom out on the slate as a whole, zoom in on the best NBA DFS picks, and constantly update as news breaks. Whether you are diving into the slate 5 hours before it starts or 5 minutes before it starts, you’ve come to the right place.
Happy Tuesday, everyone!
I hope everyone had a great weekend. I was able to secure another profitable weekend in NFL DFS and was so close to a big betting weekend in PGA DFS. Byeong-Hun An found himself in a playoff and had a huge advantage after all three golfers hit their third shots. He had about 4 feet for birdie, while the other two golfers had 20 feet and 40 feet. Naturally, Grayson Murray dropped his 40-foot putt, and Benny An missed his 4-foot putt. As they say in one of my favorite shows (Ted Lasso), “It’s the hope that kills you.”
While I spent most of the weekend watching sports, I was able to sneak out and take my little one sledding for a couple of hours. It’s been so cold here in Utah that the sledding hills are essentially all ice. Someone built a jump in the middle of one of the hills, so we tried our best to avoid it. I’m certainly a risk-taker in life, but not when it comes to my son. After a good 10 runs going on the sled together, he wanted to go by himself. I set him up a good 15 yards to the right of the jump and ran down the hill to film him. Right when he took off, his sled went sideways and put him on a direct line toward the jump. I tried running up the hill to stop him, but I was too late. He hit the jump while sitting up and landed while lying completely flat on his back. We both went from being scared sh**less to laughing hysterically in a span of 10 seconds. After that, he wanted to go off the jump again and again. Good times.
I’m not going to lie. I am extremely excited for this 3-game slate. It gives us a little breather and a chance to dive deeper into the slate. And hey, how about my Jazz? They have won 15 of 19 games and are back on track to make the playoffs.

Team Previews
Denver Nuggets (at PHI): The Nuggets have won 7 of their last 10 games and sit at 28-13 in the standings. We’ll see if we get a battle between MVPs tonight, as Nikola Jokic is currently listed as questionable. The matchup against the Sixers is on the tougher side, as Philadelphia is ranked 1st in 3-point percentage allowed and 3rd in defensive rating. Denver’s team total is 3.5 points below their season average. Jokic isn’t the only injury to monitor here. Believe it or not, all five starters are listed as questionable. It’s hard to cover all of the potential scenarios when all of their key players are questionable. With this being the first game on the schedule, we will get an update from Denver before lineups lock.
Philadelphia 76ers (vs. DEN): The Sixers are 12 games above .500 this season and are 15-6 at home. Depending on injuries, this could be an easy or well-earned win tonight against the Nuggets, who are 28th in pace and 10th in defensive rating. The Sixers have a team total that is 4.1 points below their season average. On the injury front, De’Anthony Melton has been ruled out, while Robert Covington and Mo Bamba are listed as doubtful. In terms of the battle between the MVPs, here’s how they have fared against each other in their previous matchups:
- Joel Embiid — 88, 56, 49, 41, and 41 fantasy points
- Nikola Jokic — 49, 58, 43, 58, and 64 fantasy points
