NBA DFS Core Plays LIVE: Wednesday, February 28th

A daily fantasy sports OG, Notorious has been roaming the DFS streets ever since they were invented. He has racked up multiple live final seats and several six-figure tournament wins in his DFS career, and Noto will mix it up in all different types of contests. So, who better to walk you through the madness of an NBA DFS slate? Core Plays LIVE will zoom out on the slate as a whole, zoom in on the best NBA DFS picks, and constantly update as news breaks. Whether you are diving into the slate 5 hours before it starts or 5 minutes before it starts, you’ve come to the right place.
I hope everyone is enjoying RotoGrinders 2.0. If there are any bugs that you notice or anything that’s out of place, please let us know.
We have a 6-game slate on tap this evening. Even though we only have one late game on the schedule, both FanDuel and DraftKings decided to keep it on their main slates. It’s always nice when the two main DFS sites have the same slates, as it makes it much easier to dissect from our point of view. We have four teams playing in the second half of a back-to-back (Pelicans, Mavericks, Wolves, Bulls), so there’s a decent chance we see some veterans get the night off.
While I wish it was a little warmer in my neck of the woods, this is still one of my favorite times of the year. The next month features some of my favorite PGA TOUR events. March Madness is right around the corner, and perhaps most importantly, it’s Girl Scout Cookie season! I’m partial to the thin mints myself, but it’s hard to go wrong with any of the flavors. Every year, I order a bunch of boxes and think that I overdid it. Then, all of the cookies are gone after a span of a few weeks, and I wonder why I didn’t order more in the first place. It’s a tradition unlike any other. Speaking of, we are only 6 weeks away from the Masters.
Anyway, we are here to talk about some basketball. Let’s hop, skip, and jump into tonight’s slate.

Team Previews
Dallas Mavericks (at TOR): The Mavericks have won 7 of their last 10 games and are 33-25 on the season. That record is good enough for 5th place in the East but only 8th place in the West. Tonight they travel to Toronto to take on the Raptors, who are 13th in pace this season and bottom five in defensive rating over the last 10 games. The Mavericks are small favorites and have a total that is 1.7 points above their season average. Maxi Kleber is not expected to play, but Dallas is expecting to have everyone else available in the second half of their back-to-back. Luka Doncic has a massive projection (65 fantasy points) and is garnering less than 20% projected ownership. He’s one of the more appealing spends on the slate. Kyrie Irving is usually a nice pivot off of Doncic when he’s popular, but I’m not sure we have to worry about that tonight. While far from priorities, Kleber and Josh Green are viable as lineup fillers on this slate.
Toronto Raptors (vs. DAL): The Raptors have won 3 games in a row but are still well behind the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference. At this point, I’m not sure management wants this team to make a run at the playoffs. Tonight they host the Mavericks, who are 10th in pace and 21st in defensive rating. The Raptors come into the game with a total that is 2.8 points higher than their season average. Jakob Poeltl is listed as questionable, so there’s a chance we could see Kelly Olynyk draw the start at center. If that happens, he becomes somewhat of a free square tonight, given the fact that he has averaged 1.12 DK / 1.12 FD points per minute this season. Scottie Barnes has averaged 54 fantasy points over his last 4 games and is viable in all formats tonight. RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and Gary Trent all deserve consideration but are best suited as lineup fillers rather than lineup starters.
