NBA Betting Picks for Today: Spurs at Nets

It know it seems like all of these articles are about the Nets, but they are a team that’s been in interesting situations lately — situations I want to capitalize on. After getting destroyed by the Grizzlies on the second end of a back-to-back, I think the public might be more bearish on than than they should be. We were on the right side in that game but I’m not fading the Nets tonight.

The Nets currently sit 7th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 27-34 and are 4-6 in their last 10 games. They enter the weekend with the only notable injury. Unfortunately, Garrett Temple will be sitting out Friday night against the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs have been a massive disappointment this season, and I think there’s more disappointment in store for Spurs fans. Tonight, the Spurs will be missing some size down low with Poeltl and Lamarcus Aldridge both inactive. The Spurs currently sit 11th in the Western Conference with a record of 26-34 and are 4-6 in their last 10. They have an outside chance at the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, but the odds don’t look good. Right now the Grizzlies currently own a four-game lead over the Spurs. To make matters worse, there are five teams within five games of the 8th seed.

Anyways, back to Friday night’s matchup.

Since the All-Star break, both teams have actually played fairly similar according to the numbers. The Spurs rank 27th in offensive efficiency while the Nets rank 26th. Similarly, the Spurs rank 15th in defensive efficiency while the Nets rank 17th. Where the big difference is in this matchup is home court advantage for the Nets. The Nets are 16-14 straight up at home this season compared to 11-20 straight up on the road. The Spurs have a similar home-road splits, and have actually been the second-worst team in the West while playing on the road. Overall, both of these teams have been above average at home but have been some of the worst teams in the league when traveling.

NBA Betting Picks: Nets -3.5

I know that there isn’t a ton of analysis on this game, but it comes down to a few simple facts. The Nets come enter fairly healthy and have been playing some pretty decent basketball lately outside of one blowout against the Grizzlies, which I chalk up to them being on the second end of a back-to-back after an OT win in Boston.

The Spurs and Nets are pretty similar in terms of talent when they are healthy, but the Spurs will be playing tonight without one of their best players and missing a ton of size. It’s certainly not ideal considering they’re going up against a team that is primed to use their size to their advantage. DeRozen isn’t playing well, and the home court advantage for the Nets is big while the Spurs tend to struggle a lot on the road. Everything in this game gives a slight lean toward the Nets. When you add it all up, I think that it’s a massive edge and makes for a great spot to take the Nets.
