On Wednesday night, the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks will battle at the American Airlines Center on ESPN. Both of these teams last played on Monday, but this will be Golden State’s third game in eight days, whereas Dallas will be playing their third game in four days. Entering play, the Warriors will be near full strength, with only Andre Iguodala being listed as questionable among players that have played in a game this season. The Mavericks will be without Willie Cauley-Stein, Boban Marjanovic, Kristaps Porzingis, and Isaiah Thomas. Oddsmakers are anticipating good health and favorable scheduling playing a key role in this one, pricing the Warriors as 5-point road favorites on the spread at online sportsbooks.
Warriors Preview
Though Golden State remains without Klay Thompson and James Wiseman, this is unquestionably one of the most talented rosters in the NBA. On the season, the Warriors rank 4th in the NBA in offensive efficiency and 1st in defensive efficiency. When playing with equal rest to their opponent, this group is 10-3 ATS and 12-1 straight up. Stephen Curry is coming off of one of the worst shooting games of his career, having scored only 9 points on 3-for-17 shooting in Golden State’s most recent victory over the Miami Heat. Bettors should expect a strong bounce-back performance from the MVP-frontrunner. His over/under is listed at 26.5 points at PrizePicks for those interested in betting on a strong individual performance, rather than trusting the Dubs as a unit.
Mavericks Preview
Luka Doncic returned to the Mavericks’ lineup this past Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder. In two games since returning to the floor, Dallas is 2-0 , winning each contest by at least nine points. Yet, bettors should proceed with caution before assuming that Doncic is going to propel the Mavericks to one of the best teams in the Western Conference. Both the Thunder and the Denver Nuggets rank in the bottom-half of the league in Net Rating over their last seven contests. Further, when Doncic is on the floor this season, Dallas has not been particularly strong–winning only four of their last nine games. Per Cleaning the Glass, when Doncic is on the court, but Porzingis is off of the court–Dallas ranks in only the 43rd percentile in offensive efficiency and the 34th percentile in defensive efficiency.
Today’s Pick & Prediction
It is worth noting that Dallas ranks 7th in the NBA in Net Rating over their last 10 games, but that stretch of the schedule has included weak teams, such as the Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves (twice), Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings (twice), Oklahoma City Thunder, and Denver Nuggets. Though counterintuitive, Dallas has actually been worse with Doncic on the floor this season. Bettors should expect Curry and company to win this game with relative ease.
If looking to attack the player prop market in this one, PrizePicks has Andrew Wiggins’ prop listed at over/under 17.5 points. Per EdgHouse, Wiggins has hit this number 16 times in 32 games played this season, including five of his last six contests. Against a mediocre Dallas defense, Wiggins could find success in this one. Take the over.
PICK: Warriors (-5)
