NBA Preseason Primer: Friday, October 5th
Hello Grinders. Before we break down the slate, be sure to leverage the projections in LineupHQ, discussions in the RotoGrinders Discord chat and the Court Report live blog each weekday by SBK. The way I would approach NBA preseason is to use this article as a primer for the day and then rely on the Court Report if you can for the latest news right before tipoff. If you’re interested in learning more about what’s available or want to sign up, you can find information here.

We have a massive seven-game slate. It may not sound massive, but it’s massive for preseason because it takes me hours to search through tweets, beat reports and articles for 14 NBA teams. Because we have so much to work through, and because I expect news to filter in throughout Friday that will continue shaping the landscape of this slate, I’m taking a slightly different approach to this article. I’m going to try and condense this article as much as possible so that it’s easier to consume what 14 NBA teams are doing by creating sections for each team. Let me know if this format is helpful and if so, I can try doing this more often on larger slates.
Feel free to give me a follow on Twitter. Let’s dive in!
Miami Heat vs Washington Wizards
Miami Heat
What we know:
• The following players are out: Bam Adebayo, James Johnson, Derrick Jones Jr, Marcus Lee, Dion Waiters. Josh Richardson is no longer on the injury report (source).
• Ira Winderman expects Josh Richardson to make his preseason debut on Friday despite trade rumors involving him for Jimmy Butler (source).
What this news means to me:
• With Bam still out, maybe we see Kelly Olynyk draw another start. I like him in GPPs regardless of his status.
• Josh Richardson returning may push Rodney McGruder back to the bench. I’m likely going to take a wait-and-see approach with Richardson unless we get some kind of news that makes him more appealing to me.
• I’m going to continue riding the Hassan Whiteside train. He looks motivated.
