On Monday evening, the Brooklyn Nets and the Portland Trail Blazers will battle at the Moda Center. Both teams will be playing on the latter half of a back-to-back set after playing yesterday. Brooklyn outlasted the San Antonio Spurs in an overtime affair at the Barclays Center. Portland made easy work of the Sacramento Kings, and had the benefit of not traveling for tonight’s contests. Still in this matchup, oddsmakers are anticipating Brooklyn securing a relatively easy victory, pricing the Nets as 10-point road favorites on the spread at online sportsbooks.

Brooklyn Nets

Most notably tonight for the Nets, Kyrie Irving will be in the lineup. Due to his vaccination status, Irving is only eligible to play in road games for Brooklyn. In Irving’s season debut last week against the Indiana Pacers, he totaled 22 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block, and 3 steals on 9-for-17 shooting from the field in 32 minutes of action. His presence will be appreciated by Brooklyn Monday night, considering that Kevin Durant and James Harden each played 43 minutes or more yesterday against the Spurs.

Portland Trail Blazers

The Trail Blazers have already been without their two leading scorers, Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum, who have been dealing with injuries. Prior to tip-off yesterday, Portland’s third-leading scorer, Norman Powell, entered health and safety protocols–further limiting the Trail Blazers offensive capabilities.

In Portland’s last seven games, they rank 30th in the NBA in defensive efficiency, allowing 124.3 points per 100 possessions. Only the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons have a worse Net Rating in that span.

Picks and Prediction

Per EdgHouse, Brooklyn is only 4-9-1 this season when favored by seven points or more on the spread. Tonight, the Nets have the challenge of being without LaMarcus Aldridge and James Harden, both of whom are listed as out for this contest. Factor in that Brooklyn had to fly across the country for this game and bettors can find plenty of reasons to trust Portland, even a depleted Portland roster, to cover such a large spread against Brooklyn.

If looking to attack the player prop market in this one instead of wagering on two rosters missing a number of key players, there are a couple of strong opportunities to take advantage of in the market.

Nets-Blazers Props

Kyrie Irving Over/Under 22.5 points (-118)

As we mentioned above, Irving’s presence tonight will be greatly appreciated by the Nets, who played heavy minutes in an overtime affair yesterday against the Spurs. In a matchup against one of the worst defenses in the NBA, Irving should have little trouble putting the ball in the basket. It could be worth stacking his player props all the way up to 30 points at plus-money in this one. Irving should thrive in this one.

Anfernee Simons Over/Under 22.5 points (-115)

When Lillard, McCollum, and Powell are off of the floor, Simons is the top offensive option for this Portland team. Simons has proven himself capable of being an offensive force at times this year. In an expanded role, he should thrive. The total on this game is priced at 224 at the time of writing. In a high-scoring affair, Simons should be able to hit this number.
