Happy Week 6!

I had a decent Week 5, although a dud or two on each lineup kept it from being a great week. Let’s turn the page and look forward to Week 6.

This is a very interesting slate. There were quite a few injuries that were expected to open up value earlier in the week, but most of that has dried up. A lot of the players that we expected to be out ended up practicing on Friday. We still need to keep an eye on a few injuries, but it doesn’t look like there’s going to be a ton of value. Additionally, the prices of players have risen across the board. That combination has led to a very restrictive salary cap.

You might not love the way your lineups look this week, but remember, everyone is in the same boat.

NFL DFS Top Picks & Plays: Noto’s Key Personnel for Week 6

As always, make sure to check back here on Sunday morning. I will update the table below with my final Core Plays, Strong Plays, and Sprinkle Plays. I will also keep the injury tab updated. Any changes based on injuries or my thoughts will be reflected in the table.

Top Quarterback Plays

Tier 1 – Core Plays

Allen of the Bills

Any week ending in a number (which is every week) is a good time to target Josh Allen ($7,500 DK, $9,500 FD) in DFS. After scoring 7 rushing touchdowns in the first 4 games of the season, he rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown in a win over the Rams in Week 5. The most a quarterback has ever averaged in a season is 10.8 rushing fantasy points per game, and Allen has averaged 14.8 rushing fantasy points so far this season. Essentially, we can’t expect him to be this successful on the ground every game. However, he has plenty of room for improvement in the passing game, and he’ll always have rushing upside. He draws a nice matchup against the Raiders, who are 29th in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks.

Tyler Shough ($5,600 DK, $7,500 FD) leads all quarterbacks in expected fantasy points per game (XFPPG) this season at 23.7 per game. The Saints play at the fastest pace of any team in the NFL and have an above-average pass rate over expectation (PROE). They also have a terrible defense, which keeps the offense aggressive throughout the game. While many will see a mediocre total in this game and look elsewhere, I think it has real shootout potential if we can get a good game from Jameis Winston. It’s a great matchup for Shough, as the Giants are 23rd in EPA allowed per dropback and 25th in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks.

Tier 2 – Strong Plays

Stafford of the Rams

Matthew Stafford ($6,400 DK, $7,800 FD) is popping in all of the projection models this week. The Rams have a massive team total (32.5) in a home matchup against the Cardinals. I do not doubt that the Rams will score points, but I do have some concern that Arizona will keep the game competitive as 12.5-point underdogs. The good news is that if the Rams build a big lead, Stafford will likely be involved in the scoring. I view him as a high-floor option this week, but his ceiling hinges on Arizona’s ability to keep the game close. He’s obviously a great play, but he’s projected for 25% ownership. There are plenty of interesting pivots.
