49ers vs. Rams Monkey Knife Fight Prop Picks

More or Less (2/2, 3x Your Buy-In)

If you read my AFC Championship picks, you know I try to correlate these selections when I can. That often means I’m picking either a pair of overs or a pair of unders. It’s rare that I’ll mix the two. However, these two prop lines/projections are far enough apart that I don’t mind an over-under combination.

I expect the Rams to play from ahead and win comfortably, a game script that should lead to fewer pass attempts, and thus yards, for their quarterback. If that plays out as planned, Garoppolo and the 49ers will be playing from behind. We can expect more passing yards as a result.

Moreover, Stafford has gone under this number in four of his last six outings, including a 238-yard Week 18 performance against none other than the 49ers. In that same game, Jimmy G eclipsed 300 yards

Not so surprisingly I want to pair Stafford-Under with an under prediction for his receiver, Cooper Kupp. Kupp has surpassed 8.5 receptions in nine of 18 games this season, so it’s fair to say this line is pretty efficient. Therefore our best route is to paint a picture of how the game will go. Stafford also seems more willing to look toward receiver Odel Beckham and tight end Tyler Higbee. An unfavorable game script gives the edge, though slim, to UNDER 8.5 catches Sunday night.

Aside from two massive performances against the Seahawks and Bengals, Kittle has been relatively quiet for the majority of the season. The once-unstoppable tight end had no more than 29 yards in a single game from Week 16 through their Wild Card round with the Cowboys. Despite poor weather, things picked up for Kittle in Green Bay as he turned four receptions into 63 yards. He could’ve had another 50-ish yards and a touchdown if a perfect through hadn’t bounced off his chest. The 49ers and Garoppolo are going to need Kittle to step up in a huge way as they fight to stay apace with a Rams offense that seems to be clicking at just the right time.

As for the 49ers running game, 71.5 yards is a bit too much for Elijah Mitchell, especially if you believe the game will force the 49ers to pass more than usual. It’s also worth noting that Kyle Shanahan has used wide receiver Deebo Samuel in the backfield more in the playoffs than he did the regular season. Samuel has carried the ball 20 times (10 each game) this postseason. In the eight regular-season games that he carried the ball at least five times, he never once had more than eight attempts. With the good news that Samuel was not on Wednesday’s injury report, it looks like this postseason will continue into the NFC Championship and take away at least a couple of Mitchell’s touches.
