NFL DFS Showdown Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Thursday Night Football (Vikings vs. Rams)

DRAFTKINGS

Who are your three favorite Captains, ranked in order?

Notorious: Justin Jefferson, Kyren Williams, Will Reichard
headChopper: Sam Darnold, Aaron Jones, Justin Jefferson
ncorfield8k: Aaron Jones, Justin Jefferson, Cooper Kupp
Davis Mattek: Justin Jefferson, Cooper Kupp, Kyren Williams

What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?

Notorious: Single-entry and small-field tournaments – We have a lot of good spend-up options. Cooper Kupp is expected back, both quarterbacks are viable, Justin Jefferson is always a great option, and both of these running backs have had big workloads this season. My plan of attack is to be overweight on two values in particular: Will Reichard and Colby Parkinson. This should help me get more exposure to the expensive plays.

headChopper: I’ll play 20 lineups in some large-field tournaments. I’ll get these lineups from our NFL DFS Sims tool, SimLabs, but my contribution, other than the settings I like for Showdowns, is that I want to lock in a particular player and let it ride on him. In this game, it looks like Sam Darnold at Captain for me. The ownership at the Captain spot should be jumbled between several good players, but I see Darnold being the best option based on price. Justin Jefferson is slightly favored to outscore Darnold most games on DK, but it’s almost impossible for him to separate enough to cover the gap in salary.

ncorfield8k: Large-field GPPs – Assuming Cooper Kupp returns, there will be four stars with elite usage in this game. Both Aaron Jones and Kyren Williams rank in the top 10 in terms of expected share of their team’s fantasy points. Kupp and Justin Jefferson are both among the top four wide receivers in expected fantasy points per game. It’s pretty likely at least two of the four will end up in the winning lineup, so I will have significant exposure to all, particularly in Captain/MVP spots. I’ll offset their popularity by mixing in inexpensive contrarian plays, like Demarcus Robinson, Johnny Mundt, and the D/STs.

Davis Mattek: This is an incredible slate for large-field tournaments because the underdog Rams players will likely be under-owned. Kyren Williams, Puka Nacua, Colby Parkinson, Tutu Atwell…all of them will probably be lower owned than their Vikings counterparts. This is also a great slate to be overweight the D/STs. Something that people forget is that you actually want D/STs in high-scoring, high-pass-attempt games. The legendary KC/LAR game in Mexico City featured a D/ST in the optimal! The Vikings play a super high-variance defensive style, and the Rams get to face one of the most turnover-prone and sack-prone QBs (Sam Darnold) in the modern history of the NFL.
