Noto's Key Personnel: Week 17
A daily fantasy sports OG, Notorious has been roaming the DFS streets ever since they were invented. So, who better to walk you through all of the key NFL DFS positions each week? Noto has racked up multiple live final seats and several six-figure tournament wins in his DFS career, and he will mix it up in all different types of contests. In his Key Personnel article, he will walk you through his favorite NFL DFS picks, ways to pivot away from the chalk, and overall strategy for the upcoming slate.
Happy Week 17 everyone! Well honestly, it’s quite sad that we are already to Week 17, but we can still celebrate the fact that we have two more full slates to sweat this season.
I have always been a fan of Hard Knocks. I know it’s the same setup every season, but I love seeing everything behind the scenes of an NFL franchise. This week I have watched all of the in-season episodes with the Miami Dolphins. The show has a way of endearing us to teams. The Lions were one of the most bet teams (win total and Super Bowl) before last season. Even as a betting veteran myself, I couldn’t help but pull up the Dolphins’ schedule and look at their odds for this week and in the futures markets.
The Dolphins are an easy team to root for because their roster is full of underdog stories. There’s something about a good underdog sports story that really warms the heart. And when it comes to Mike McDaniel, he is a national treasure. We need to protect him at all costs. In addition to being an offensive genius, he’s one of the more unique people that I have ever seen in the NFL. Now, with all of that said, I am still hoping they lose this weekend. At the end of the day, the wallet is more important than the heart in this business and I have futures bets on the Bills to make the playoffs, to win the division, and to make the Super Bowl.
As for this week’s DFS slate, it is shaping up to be one of my favorites of the season. It’s sort of a choose-your-own-path type of week, much like those Goosebumps books back in the day. Did anyone else always second-guess their selection and go try the other path in those books? In DFS this week, there are good spend-up and spend-down options at both quarterback and running back. We’ll likely see a high correlation in ownership between the cheap quarterbacks and Christian McCaffrey, as well as the expensive quarterbacks and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. With so many paths, my biggest piece of advice is to be mindful about roster construction in tournaments.
NFL DFS Top Picks & Plays: Noto’s Key Personnel for Week 17
Quarterback
SALARY-SAVING EXPERT PLAY TAGS
Lamar Jackson: $7,900 FD
Jacoby Brissett: $4,900 DK
Tyrod Taylor: $4,600 DK / $6,700 FD
As noted in the introduction, I like the idea of paying down at quarterback this week. However, that’s more of a strategy on DraftKings, and ultimately, Lamar Jackson is far too cheap on FanDuel. After beating the Niners on Monday night, he has one hand on the MVP trophy. As long as he can reel off two wins and play well over the last 2 games, he should win his second MVP award of his career. This week the Ravens host the Dolphins in what could be one of the highest-scoring games of the week. Jackson has thrown at least 2 touchdowns in 3 of his last 5 games and has run for at least 39 yards in 6 straight games. He offers a strong floor/ceiling combination at $7,900 on FanDuel.
