In this space, we’ll preview FanDuel ownership projections for the Sunday main slate of Week 18 of the NFL DFS season. We’ll look at chalk. We’ll look at contrarian plays. We’ll look at plays that should be owned more than they will be. We’ll look at plays that should be owned less than they should be.

This isn’t a comprehensive look at ownership throughout the slate, but a peek into what stands out. The reasoning behind the analysis can be applied to dozens of other players on the slate.

FanDuel Ownership Notes

The Early Cheap RBs

Jordan Mason and Ronnie Rivers are the early-named starting RBs off the bench, and they’ll be the most-owned.

I’m on Team Overreact to Late News, so my stand on these cheap expected bellcows is to wait for more news on Sunday morning to find cheap RBs. I’d rather go heavy on a late news value play than the early one most of the time.

And that goes for WRs and cheap QBs, too. Though, I think we’re paying at least a little bit for our stacks this week. Which is why my nose is to the ground on being heavy on late news at RB.

Da’ Bears

There’s this weird dialectic happening all week. The Bears are gonna probably play everyone. The Bears primary stack is projecting really well this week. The Bears are projected at single-digit ownership.

Justin Fields and DJ Moore are blowing up. Fields has the fourth-highest ceiling projection among QBs and Moore is fifth among WRs. Yet, no one’s gonna play them.

On the other side of this game, the Packers are in a must-win and Jordan Love is projected at under 5% ownership.

I’m genuinely flabbergasted as to why the field is ignoring this game.

Burying the Lede: Dolphins vs. Bills

The biggest game of the week in real life and fantasy is this Dolphins-Bills game on Sunday Night Football and FanDuel is including it on their main slate.

The novelty of the game on the main slate is boosting the ownership of Josh Allen a ton — especially considering that he’s extremely expensive at $9,500. I’d rather just stack the cheaper Tua Tagovailoa with Tyreek Hill at a fraction of the ownership.

The field might be forgetting how dynamic the Dolphins offense has been this year.

Tagovailoa leads the league in total pass yards and pass yards per game. Hill leads the league in receiving yards and he missed a game. The Bills are 2.5-point favorites and the Dolphins implied total is only 23, but do not forget about the damage this team can put on an opponent. When they’re on, it’s downright embarrassing.
