NFL Playoffs Divisional Round Weather Report and Forecast

Ravens QB Jackson

We’re now into the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs, and 3 of the 4 games are outdoors in sub-optimal weather.

This NFL weather article will highlight any extreme temperatures, precipitation, and, most importantly, high winds that we could see across the NFL landscape this week. If a game isn’t specifically listed in this week’s report, that means the weather is quiet enough for it not to be an issue in that particular game.

NFL Divisional Round Weather Report & Forecast

As always, it’s best to stay up to date with the very latest forecasts, so follow me on Twitter @KevinRothWx and keep an eye on my NFL weather report.

A reminder that while temperature and rain/snow can impact a game, the greatest impact by far comes from high wind, so I’ll be looking to highlight those spots when possible.

Saturday, January 18th

Houston Texans at Kansas City Chiefs – Cold with a little breeze. Game time temperatures will likely be in the low to mid-20s, with winds around 10 mph sustained and gusts around 20 mph. Neither of those conditions are huge factors alone, but the combination of cold and light breeze is a slight bump down to offensive efficiency.

Washington Commanders at Detroit Lions – Game indoors, no worries.

Sunday, January 19th

Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles – Models have been trending a bit colder in PHI, which brings in the chance for a snow game. The details of the snow aren’t set in stone, but I think we see active snow falling in-game, potentially enough for some snow on the ground. Winds stay 5-10mph sustained with gusts around 20mph.

Baltimore Ravens at Buffalo Bills – There will be bitter cold, light winds, and a chance for snow. Temperatures here will be in the teens, and there’s a chance for some passing snow showers as well. I don’t think the snow will be a major issue, but anytime we see temperatures in the teens, it’s a slight bump down to offensive efficiency.

Weather Impact on Fantasy & Betting

I’ll start with the cold, which is an issue in 3 of our 4 games, especially in KC and Buffalo. Cold temperatures do have a correlation to scoring. The colder it is, the fewer points are typically scored. However, it is not a dramatic difference like the way high wind can cripple totals. I think of these games as “not ideal, but good enough,” with a slight tick down to passing and kicking. The potential for snow (Buffalo and Philly) will need to be monitored.

In case things change, I’ll be posting radar GIFs to Twitter as we get closer to kickoff: @KevinRothWx on Twitter.
