Playbook

This evening’s Sunday Night Football matchup will feature Michael Penix Jr. and the Falcons against Christian McCaffrey and the 49ers. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.

Atlanta enters play fresh off of an upset victory on Monday over Buffalo. The return of star CB A.J. Terrell helped the Falcons put together one of the more impressive defensive performances of the season to date, holding QB Josh Allen and company to only 14 points. The 49ers entered the weekend tied for 1st place in the NFC West, but they have injuries piling up on the defensive side of the ball, with EDGE Nick Bosa and LB Fred Warner lost for the year.

Looking at the NFL Odds ahead of kickoff, fans and bettors should be treated to a good prime-time show on Sunday, with the 49ers favored by only 2 points on the spread. The total is set at over/under 46.5 points.

Best NFL Player Props for Falcons vs. 49ers

Here are my top player prop bets, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 PM ET on Sunday, October 19th:

Mac Jones UNDER 252.5 Passing Yards (-115, BetMGM)

The return of star CB A.J. Terrell immediately elevated the production of this Arizona secondary unit. In Week 1 and Week 2 with Terrell on the field, the Falcons pass defense ranked 5th in EPA/play and 3rd in success rate. In Week 3 and Week 4, with Terrell out of the lineup, Atlanta’s pass defense ranked 18th in EPA/play and 18th in success rate. In Week 6, Terrell returned following the team’s bye and helped the Falcons’ pass defense return to being a top-tier unit – in a tough matchup, no less.

Jones has played well in his cameo as the San Francisco starting quarterback this fall, but this is a tougher matchup than some of the surface-level statistics may indicate. His receiving corps is still not fully healthy either. There is value on the under.

Mac Jones OVER 5.5 Rushing Yards (-110, bet365)

Jones wasn’t 100% healthy going into the team’s game against the Buccaneers in Week 6, but he still ran the ball 5 times for 13 yards in that matchup. The week prior, Jones took a few big hits throughout the game, but still made attempts to be mobile a couple of times throughout the contest.

Ahead of kickoff in Week 7, HC Kyle Shanahan said that Jones “is a lot farther ahead this week than he was last week,” telling the media that he didn’t have to miss as many practice reps leading up to the game. It sounds as though Jones is feeling better, which could be a good sign for his mobility against the Falcons. This is a yardage number that he could clear with one well-timed escape from the pocket against an Atlanta defense that deploys a high rate of man coverage.

Christian McCaffrey OVER 61.5 Rushing Yards (-110, bet365)

Atlanta’s run defense hasn’t been particularly good early in 2025, ranking 20th in EPA/play and 30th in success rate through 6 weeks. In Week 3, the Falcons allowed 103 rushing yards to Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle on the road in Carolina. The following week, Chris Rodriguez Jr. and Jacory Croskey-Merritt combined for 106 rushing yards against Atlanta.

McCaffrey doesn’t have the best efficiency numbers on the ground this year, but he’s still a very talented player who is capable of producing big numbers in a favorable matchup. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him have a big game on the ground this evening.
