NHL DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Thursday, December 21

Who is your top overall play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?

TastefulTides: Nathan MacKinnon – There are quite a few strong selections on this big 12-game slate. The Avs are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Blackhawks in their last game and now return home to face an Ottawa team that has lost 5 straight. I think MacKinnon and company come into this game highly motivated in front of the hometown crowd. Ottawa also has the 4th-worst penalty kill in the NHL and the 2nd-highest penalty minutes per game. This is a smash spot for MacKinnon and his linemates.

ezellmt: Auston Matthews – I won’t argue with MacKinnon, but the Avs are a mess right now and face a better opponent than the Maple Leafs. Here are Matthews’ collective numbers and per-game averages over his last 5 games: 9 goals (1.8), 12 points (2.4), and 32 shots (6.4). He’ll face a Sabres team who just gave up NINE goals to the Blue Jackets. Compared to MacKinnon, I expect less ownership too.

boggslite: Nathan MacKinnon – On home ice, where he is averaging 2 points per game, MacKinnon has carried the load offensively for the Avs while they have struggled with injuries throughout the season. He draws a solid matchup against an Ottawa team that is without their top defenseman and ranks 29th in PK%.

Who is your favorite contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
