Who is your favorite contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) and why?
Moneyball16: Kevin Fiala – yesterday he was quietly moved to the top pp unit for the Wild. They went 1/3 on the PP so they probably keep it going today. Oftentimes I find powerplay unit changes to lag a few days behind in the public knowledge so I think Fiala could be underrated today.
Joda: Tage Thompson – If playing Matthews, your second center is likely Hartman or Zegras, and they all check in meaningfully cheaper than Tage Thompson. Tage was relatively quiet on Saturday night, recording just one shot (which happened to be a goal), but he looks worthwhile in tournaments again today
Who is your top overall play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
Moneyball16: Kirill Kaprizov – you could go AM34 here, but Kirillthe Thrill is much cheaper, has a better matchup, and has much superior correlation with other good plays on his line and powerplay unit.
Joda: Auston Matthews – If you want to fade him on a massive slate, go ahead, but no chance on a five game slate where the other elite centers are not in action. The Isles were thoroughly outplayed by a bad Montreal team on Friday night. If the goaltending slips just a bit, Matthews could be in for another ceiling performance.
What’s your hot take of the night?
Moneyball16: Multiple points for James Van Riemsdyk
Joda: Fleury blanks the Sharks
