Slate Overview

The Oilers are bad. I’m thankful because I faded last night so even though my team in the $555 wasn’t great, and it was enough to min-cash thanks to the Oilers laying an egg. It creates an interesting debate (and one that was had briefly in the Discord a week ago) about how much data from the current season is needed to draw significant conclusions compared to years of prior data. I still think Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are #good, but there’s enough data from this year to say that something is wrong, whether that’s schematically, the wrong players being put together, etc. Anyways, they’ll be off tonight and back at it tomorrow night and we’ll get to make the decision all over again.

We have a nice little six-gamer for a Friday night, which as I’ve mentioned in the past, is in the window (6 to 8 games) that is my favorite. The Golden Knights are -550 (!!!) favorites against the Sharks, who are on the second of a back-to-back. I’ll let you historians confirm this, but this might be the highest line I’ve seen in the last decade. Here’s how I’m going to treat Vegas tonight. If their ownership looks like it’s going to get out of control, I’m ok fading (and here’s why). Vegas already likes to roll out three lines. Even if the game were to end up something like 6-1, there’s a chance the scoring is fairly distributed and no one has more than a pair of points. Now if we see another 10 goal outburst like the Sharks have given up lately, obviously that changes things and you’ll need all of the Vegas to do damage in GPPs.
