Slate Overview
Last night was a reminder of how difficult this game can be sometimes. Even if you nailed one of your stacks (e.g. Toronto) and faded the right one (Colorado), it didn’t really matter if you didn’t have the one that blew up (Dallas, specifically Roope Hintz). The inclusion of the bonuses on DK several years ago added plenty of intrigue but also meant that some of the scores each night would be far and beyond the others. Overall, I still enjoy it, but it can make it frustrating at times. Tonight, we have a surprisingly small slate at just seven games. There are some excellent real-life games, but as is often the case, the real life games might carry slightly less fantasy appeal due to the evenly matched nature of the teams. The Devils-Bruins, Rangers-Lightning, Hurricanes-Maple Leafs, and Oilers-Kings all feature teams with Stanley Cup aspirations. Then of course that means that the other favorites (Panthers and Penguins) will actually be the chalk due to favorable matchups.
I don’t know about you, but everyone I know has been impacted by the flu or stomach bugs lately. In fact, we were supposed to have family over for a late Christmas celebration but had to cancel due to illness. I say that to say NHL teams are dealing with the same problem. There’s the flu bug going around, so it’s even more important than usual to pay attention to the news and especially the Discord channel.
Top Skaters
Jake Guentzel
DraftKings $7,600
There are some quality options at the top tonight (as usual), but there’s a decent chance I’m going to opt for more of a balanced build this evening due to the options available in the mid-range. One of the best spots belongs to the Penguins, specifically Jake Guentzel. Guentzel has taken the crown from Sidney Crosby as the most valuable fantasy player for the Penguins (although it’s close). Guentzel is averaging over a point per game and coming off one of his best games of the season on Wednesday where he had two goals and an assist against the Islanders.
