Today’s Games

Slate Overview

There are 13 games on the day, but thankfully it’s more manageable for the main slate with just seven games. It’s an exciting set of games, with the Devils-Hurricanes, Maple Leafs-Senators, Penguins-Jets, and Oilers-Kings of note. I don’t see any standout spots that are head and shoulders above the rest, although the Lightning and Hurricanes could probably make a claim for that distinction.

The contests on DraftKings are bit on the disappointing side, as I expected at least $50,000 in total prizes for the $400. Still, there are plenty of $555 Barn Bash qualifiers out there, so if you haven’t already, there’s still some time to gather up tickets before the contest in 10 days. I haven’t chased hard yet, but think tonight might be the night I take some shots. Let’s get into it.

From an injury standpoint, the biggest news is that Andrei Svechnikov seems ready to return to the lineup tonight against the Devils. If all goes according to plan, he’ll slot in the first line and power play and makes for a solid play. As always, keep tabs of any late news in the Discord channel, which is arguably the most valuable resource we offer. Let’s get into it.

Nikita Kucherov
DraftKings $9,600

Somehow, the Blue Jackets haven’t played a game since the All-Star Break, and their last game was 10 days ago. It’s the classic debate of “Rest vs. Rust,” but I generally side on it being “rust” more often than not. The Lightning are the beneficiaries of this potential rust, who will be playing their third game since the All-Star Break. They haven’t looked great lately, but this matchup should more than offset the poor form.

Nikita Kucherov has cooled off somewhat but still has the most points in the league with 87 in 51 games. He’ll be on the road, but his splits haven’t been too extreme compared to some others. He’s still averaging a stout 19 DK points per game away from home. He has 3+ point bonus potential every time he steps on the ice, and in such a favorable matchup, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he did it again tonight.
