NHL DFS Picks: Slate Summary for Saturday, March 9th
Slate Overview
What a crazy trade deadline that was. I’m not even going to attempt to summarize all of the moves that were made, but there was a flurry of them, ranging from non-events to potential Stanley-Cup shifting ones. Similar to the other night, there’s a surprising lack of immediate value due to the moves, so I think it’s just random luck that many of the teams involved don’t happen to be on the slate.
The thing that stands out when looking at the slate is that nothing really stands out. Sure, there are number of favorable teams and players, but nothing that would be classified as a “must-play” in cash games. There are four teams with team totals ranging from 3.7 to 3.9: Toronto, Ottawa, Vegas, and Tampa Bay. Then it’s a trio of teams around 3.3 to 3.4: Washington (eww), New York (Rangers), and Vancouver. Overall, it’s difficult to figure out exactly where ownership will land. I’d guess the aforementioned top 4 will all split ownership fairly evenly.
This biggest injury news is that Mitch Marner is set to miss tonight’s contest. I’ll cover the ramifications below, but obviously it opens up some value given his role skating next to Auston Matthews. As always, stay tuned to the RG Discord for any other news throughout the day.
Top Skaters
Jack Eichel
DraftKings $7,900
Jack Eichel has recently returned from an extended absence due to injury and has played two games this week. He hasn’t scored in either, but there are plenty of positive signs. He has 5+ SOG in both games and is averaging around 21 minutes per game. That tells me there are zero restrictions and also that he’s willing to let it rip.
He has a fantastic matchup tonight against the Red Wings. Detroit played last night and was embarrassed 4-0 against Arizona. They are rewarded with a back-to-back against one of the league’s most physical and deep teams. Alex Lyon went last night, which means that James Reimer will be in net tonight. Reimer has been better lately, but in the long term, he has been below average.
