Slate Overview
I can’t exactly put my finger on it, but this might be the “least interesting” slate we’ve had in the young season. That doesn’t mean there will be massive amounts of chalk or that it won’t be exciting, but not a ton stands out. There are no injuries that we need to be monitoring, which is a rarity compared to the rest of the season where there have been plenty of true game-time decisions. There don’t appear to be any egregious pricing errors at the low or top-end. Because of that, I think there are a number of different ways to construct your lineups, ranging from stars-and-scrubs to a balanced build.
Top Skaters
Cole Caufield
DraftKings $6,600
There are only two true “studs” on the slate in Matthews and Pastrnak. Both of them are excellent plays and will garner plenty of ownership. Of the two, I slightly prefer Pastrnak, but it’s close. I’m not going to focus on them for the purposes of this article and will instead highlight some of the mid-tier options. Talent has never been the issue with Cole Caufield, as he was the 15th pick in the 2019 draft. He’s shown flashes during his time in the league but hasn’t maintained consistent play over a long period of time. To begin the year, he appears ready to make that leap. He has nine points in seven games, including four goals. He’s done the majority of his damage at home, where he has eight of his nine points. In a neutral matchup with the Jets, I don’t think he’ll see a ton of ownership, making him a great tournament play.
Artemi Panarin
DraftKings $6,600
Speaking of players where talent has never been the issue, here’s Artemi Panarin. He’s gone over 70 points in all seven seasons he’s played a full season, including 90+ points in back-to-back seasons. He’s shown no signs of slowing, with points in all seven games to start the year, including three multi-point performances. Tonight, he’ll face a Vancouver team on the second half of a back-to-back after facing the Blues last night. Yes, they were able to rest many of their Top 6 forwards and Top 4 defensemen in the third period due to the blowout, but New York will still have fresher legs.
