Slate Overview
Huge favorites. That’s what stands out when you look at this slate. There are six teams favored at -200 or greater, a huge number, even for a 12-game slate. Honestly, I think I’d rather have six massive favorites than one or two because ownership should be somewhat spread out. From an implied team total standpoint, the Flames, Senators, Rangers, Oilers, and Panthers top the list.
The weekly $555 Thursday Night Ice is back, and while I didn’t like it at first, now it’s become a nice change of pace from many of the other nights. There’s also the $1,450 Q that hopefully someone in the RG community can take down.
I think the most significant news to monitor is the health of the Maple Leafs’ top skaters, although they were all at the morning skate, so I’d guess they are back from illness tonight. They are officially “game-time decisions,” but I would put them as probable. There does seem to be illness going around the league, as well as trade candidates, so definitely tune in to the RG Discord for any news leading up to and after lock.
Top Skaters
Artemi Panarin
DraftKings $9,100
I’m really torn on what to do with Artemi Panarin tonight. First, the negatives. He’s still super expensive and priced similarly to the game’s elite. Also, his form has dipped tremendously, and he hasn’t displayed the upside he did earlier in the year.
Now for the positives. The matchup is as good as it comes. Montreal is bad and will be on the road, too. In Panarin’s only other game against the Canadiens this year, he had a goal, an assist, and 8 shots on goal. Sure, he was playing better then, but it still shows what he’s capable of in this matchup. For me, it’ll all come down to ownership. If he’s going to be popular, I’m fine with fading. If he’s going to go under-owned by the game log watchers, I’m fine putting my eggs in his basket.
