NHL DFS Picks: Slate Summary for Tuesday, March 26th

Slate Overview

A lot has happened since we last saw each other, most notably the occurrence of the DraftKings Fantasy Hockey World Championship. Unfortunately, the decision to prohibit late swaps reared its ugly head as about a third of the field was burned by some late scratches to key players for the Lightning. I understand why DraftKings chooses to go this route, but there has to be another way to avoid this scenario. People have anticipated this day for months, and their lineups are dead before the game even starts. Anyways, congrats to whoever took it down (I don’t even remember if I’m being honest).

There are some fantastic games on the slate tonight, including matchups between the BOS/FLA, VGK/NSH, NJ/TOR, and EDM/WPG. Unfortunately, much of that will be overshadowed for fantasy due to the fact that the Avalanche are at home against the Canadiens while the Stars have the pleasure of facing the Sharks. Those 2 teams should soak up plenty of ownership tonight.

There isn’t a ton of injury news as of now. Mitch Marner will continue to be out, while Morgan Rielly is questionable for the Maple Leafs. Alex Pietrangelo and Gabriel Vilardi will also remain out for their respective squads. If that changes and new news breaks, the NHL Discord Channel will have you covered.

Nathan MacKinnon

When I was scanning through all of the games, I was getting really excited about the slate. Then, I got to this game, and my heart sank a little. Because I knew it would be an extremely difficult fade to make, and now the free squares were there for everyone (obviously, I’m exaggerating a little; they aren’t truly free squares). Blender and I disagreed a little on the projected ownership between MacKinnon and Matthews tonight, but I see MacKinnon having the clear edge.

MacKinnon has been the fantasy MVP this season. He trails Nikita Kucherov by a point in the points race, but he has 73 more shots on goal than him. He has such a tremendous floor due to his assist totals and shot volume, and the ceiling is high due to the goal-scoring and ability to wrack up the 3+ point bonuses. His home/road splits aren’t as extreme as someone like McDavid, but he still excels even more at home, averaging 7+ more fantasy points while playing at altitude. The Canadiens are obviously an elite matchup, and I fully expect MacKinnon to accumulate another multi-point night with the potential for a slate-breaking effort.
