NHL DFS Picks: Slate Summary for Tuesday, March 5th

Slate Overview

DFS is such a funny game. I had very little confidence in last night’s slate, both as a writer and as a player. I considered sitting out the $400 but eventually realized that if I felt that way, I’m sure many others did too. It ended up working out as Alex Nylander came through in a big way with a hat trick. Had I gone Makar over Rantanen (which I heavily debated), it could have been a $20,000 night instead of a $2,000 night. Alas, we strive onward.

Tonight’s slate is much more intriguing, in my opinion. There are two teams with 4.0+ implied team totals in the Stars and the Penguins. Then, there are Coyotes and Predators around the 3.6 to 3.7 range, and a bunch of others are checking in below that. Early leans have the Penguins and Predators as the early chalk, exceeding even the Stars.

The biggest injury news is Clayton Keller, who is a game-time decision against the Blackhawks. While this normally might not be a big deal, the Coyotes are in a fantastic spot, and Keller could be in a smash spot if active. Unfortunately, it’s one of the later games with a 9:00 PM ET start, so you’ll need to have your pivots ready based on his status.

Top Skaters

Sidney Crosby
DraftKings $8,000

I’ve mentioned it a few times this year, but it’s amazing what Sidney Crosby continues to do on the ice. I used to be a full-blown hater, but I’ve migrated into the “don’t like you, but respect your game” territory for one of the modern game’s best to do it.

Crosby hasn’t scored in his last 4 games, but it hasn’t been for a lack of trying. He has 17 SOG during that span, despite all of them coming on the road. He’ll be back at home tonight, where he most recently had a 4-point flourish against the Flyers in a 35+ DK point explosion. He faces a Blue Jackets team that is scrappy but is on the second of a back-to-back. He should carry plenty of ownership, but I’m fine to consider eating the chalk and diversifying elsewhere.
