Noto's NFL DFS Core Plays: Week 9

Week 8 Recap

There were two players that ended up holding me back from a big week and unfortunately, one of them was a core play that I swapped to on Sunday morning. After Jamaal Williams was ruled out, I thought D’Andre Swift was a smash play against the Eagles. He had basically been productive every week up to that point, he was playing at home, and he was facing a very beatable defense. Unfortunately, the entire Lions team forgot to show up. The other play that let me down was even more tilting. The Eagles scored 44 points and Jalen Hurts had the worst fantasy outing of his career. It wasn’t the first-string or even the second-string running back that stole the touchdowns. No, it was third-stringer Boston Scott and elevated from the practice squad Jordan Howard that combined to score four touchdowns.

One touchdown from Hurts and it would have put me above the cash line in most of my contests on FanDuel and DraftKings. I’m not bitter. Nope, not at all. I’ve always been more of a glass half-full type of person and I know how quickly the NFL season flies by. There is nothing like waking up on a Sunday morning thinking this could be the day everything breaks your way. We only have 10 more NFL Sundays with full slates. Through the good and the bad, let’s enjoy them.

Week 9 Breakdown

Quarterback

In week 7, I paid up for Patrick Mahomes. In Week 8, I paid up for Jalen Hurts. I was ready to ditch the expensive quarterbacks this week and play Taysom Hill at home against the Falcons, but he will not be drawing the start. He’s still working his way back from a concussion and will serve as the Saints backup. If you want to punt the quarterback position, Jordan Love seems to be the obvious candidate. We haven’t seen him much at the professional level (seven career pass attemps), but he has weapons to work with, he has a solid coaching staff, and he has a great matchup. The Chiefs have allowed the second most fantasy points to quarterbacks and are ranked 30th in DVOA against the pass. Game script suggests the Packers will be playing from behind and it shouldn’t take much for him to pay off his salary. I’ve heard many say that the issue with playing Love is that there aren’t any players to spend up on this week, but I disagree.
