A storm system moving through the west coast will bring at least scattered showers to the game, with rain likely and the potential for it to last most of the game.

Below, we’ll break down the weather report and expected conditions to take into account for NFL betting and fantasy football purposes.

Weather Report for Packers @ 49ers

Once the rain starts in Santa Clara (which should be around kickoff), it keeps coming all game long. I expect a wet field, a wet ball, wet hands, and all kinds of things that typically lead to less efficiency in the passing game. The good news for the offense is that winds remain light, but that rain should have at least some impact on offense. I’ll keep the forecast updated here on my NFL weather page, and on Twitter, @KevinRothWx.

Betting & Fantasy Weather Notes

Soaking rains for most of the game means that I do expect a decrease in the overall efficiency of these offenses. A wet ball doesn’t mean teams won’t try to throw, but it can lead to a few key drops or misfires in the passing game as well as a few more run calls and a “content-to-punt-it-instead-of-turn-it-over” mentality that should lead to a lower-scoring game.
