As the TOUR heads to Scotland, how much do you weigh performance on links-style courses?
Notorious: I will definitely factor links experience into my process, but most golfers don’t describe this as “true links,” and it doesn’t look like we are going to get much wind. The current forecast is calling for less than 10-MPH winds all four days. If that holds, this might not play like a true links course.
stlcardinals84: This will be more of a factor next week at Royal Troon than it is this week. This is what you would call a “preliminary” links test for these golfers. I like a lot of the European players this week who are good on links, but that’s because I think their ownership will be criminally low just as much as it is because of their links success.
JBails26: Like Noto said, this isn’t typically a traditional links course. However, it does have links qualities. The wind looks mild so far, but we all know that can change quickly. How the weather shakes out will impact how much I weigh links performance.
hondizzle: Ball striking will always play a big factor in performance on the PGA TOUR. For me, a player’s ability to control the flight of the golf ball is one of the biggest keys to being a good ball striker. When the wind blows, I think this becomes a major factor when predicting success. I like to look at players who have played well in the wind for these next two events.
