PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for the John Deere Classic

Who is your favorite golfer for cash games?

Notorious: Maverick McNealy
stlcardinals84: Davis Thompson
JBails26: Davis Thompson
hondizzle: Davis Thompson

Who is your top contrarian golfer (when considering price, key stats, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Chan Kim – I can’t imagine anyone is going to click on Kim, as he’s missed 4 cuts in a row and has never played this event in his career. However, his underlying statistics are encouraging. Despite missing those 4 cuts in a row, he has gained 8 strokes ball striking during that stretch. His short game has really let him down recently. The putter is often his biggest weakness, but he has had splash weeks with the flatstick (+4.7 and +5.0 putting in two recent events). He projects well in my model and will likely come in at sub-5% ownership.

stlcardinals84: Kevin Streelman – Veteran golfers that play at TPC Deere Run often tend to play well consistently on this course. We have seen Zach Johnson and Steve Stricker post strong career numbers on this course, and Streelman is another golfer who fits that mold. He has quietly made the cut in each of his last 4 starts, and he has made the cut in 3 of his last 4 trips to this event, with a T7 finish in the mix. He still grades out well above field average in approach, and if he can finally warm up what has been an uncharacteristically cold putter, I like his odds as a punt level value.

JBails26: Nick Dunlap – Since Dunlap isn’t projecting as a strong value, I think he should go somewhat overlooked. Our early run of ownership projections has him in the 5-8% range. This isn’t too surprising since most players will be looking at the strong values in the $9,000 range above him or some of the $7,000-$8,000 values. His Strokes Gained: Approach numbers (49th over his last 50 rounds) don’t stand out, but he does rank 10th in Birdie or Better %. He’s worth some exposure, as it won’t take much to be overweight on the field.

hondizzle: Neal Shipley – I really regret not even thinking about adding Shipley to my player pool last week. It was a bad miss on my part to not even consider adding this very talented PGA TOUR rookie to my potential golfers. With projected ownership at less than 6% this week, it looks like most in the industry are slow to jump on this TOUR rookie in his second start as a professional. Young golfers as a whole these days are just more prepared to make the next jump in their careers. Shipley already has a ton of big experience under his belt and will have the extra motivation of needing strong weeks in order to make enough money to get his TOUR card for next season. I love his game, and this should be both a great course and a great field for him to have another strong week.
