What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
Notorious: I will mostly be playing small-field tournaments. I’m going to take my chances with a fade of Cameron Young and Jackson Koivun, which is certainly a risky move since they are combined for over 50% projected ownership as of Tuesday afternoon, but it’s one that could pay dividends if they don’t play great. Ultimately, this is a course where all types of golfers can contend. I know they’ve both played well here in the past, but I’m fine being underweight on them on a less-than-driver course like this. I’m going the balanced route.
stlcardinals84: I will be playing around 20 entries in the larger-field contests. I love going with stars-and-scrubs builds this week, with the aforementioned Cameron Young (at the top) and Kris Ventura (as a punt) being the bookend golfers in those builds. I also like Ben Griffin and Tom Kim as spend-up options, with Blades Brown and Benjamin James being a couple of rookie value options with upside. I will have very little exposure to many of the golfers in the $8,000-$8,900 range on DK and the $10,100-$10,800 range on FD.
Jbails26: I’ll be in various small-field tournaments, using a unique lineup with each entry. I’ll have exposure to Cameron Young, but I’ll also be mixing and matching other top-end names, like Jackson Koivun, Tom Kim, Hideki Matsuyama, Ben Griffin, and Ryan Gerard. I’ll be using the lower pricing tiers to slot in 1-2 contrarian pieces into my builds. In small-field tournaments, your lineups don’t need to be too off the beaten path to get unique builds compared to the field.
hondizzle: I’ll be playing 150 lineups in large-field tournaments with the goal of maximizing 1st-place upside rather than simply building safe lineups. I’m comfortable eating some of the chalk among the elite golfers, as I believe several of them have significantly more win equity than the rest of the field. Where I plan to differentiate is by getting overweight on a few cheap value plays I believe are underpriced or projecting to be under-owned, particularly Mac Meissner and Sungjae Im. If those golfers contend while the popular stars do what they’re expected to do, it creates a unique roster construction with the potential to separate from the field on Sunday.
