PGA DFS: Round 4 Showdown Picks & Projections - The Masters
PGA DFS Showdown Picks and Projections – Round 4
I’m not going to lie. I was on my couch for 8 straight hours watching the Masters on Saturday. Am I proud of it? Of course. This is the one week each year where I don’t feel guilty for sitting around and getting nothing productive done. Everything is setting up for an absolutely wild Sunday. It seemed like any time someone got into the lead on Saturday, they would immediately post a string of bogeys. We saw meltdowns from Bryson DeChambeau, Nicolai Hojgaard, and even Scottie Scheffler. Despite having a lackluster week on the greens, Scheffler holds a one-shot lead over Collin Morikawa. There are always exceptions, but the winner of The Masters almost always comes from the final group.
Finishing points are important for final round showdown contests, but perhaps not as much as you might think. I bring this up as much as possible because most DFS players blindly target the golfers at the top of the leaderboard. If you actually look at the scoring, the difference in finishing position points between 8th and 50th is essentially one birdie. I would venture to guess at least 5 golfers who are currently in the top 15 on the leaderboard will struggle and fall way back. In my opinion, the advantage we get in ownership on golfers down the leaderboard more than makes up for the lack of starting finishing position points (that aren’t guaranteed).
I tend to be more contrarian than most when it comes to final round showdown DFS. I only play tournaments and take more of a boom-or-bust approach. I plan to target 3 golfers in the top 10-15 (including Scheffler and/or Morikawa in each lineup) and then take my chances with golfers down the leaderboard. The forecast plays right into my strategy, as we aren’t expecting any wind until about 12:00 PM local time.
