The NBA schedule looks a little different on what should be a fine Friday. We’ve got another 3-game slate, but the league made the rather curious decision to start MIL/IND Game 3 in the middle of the dang afternoon. This game starts at 5:30 PM ET. What in tarnation? I know the Eastern Conference is butt this year, but man.

Game 3 of the LAC/DAL series tips at 8:00 PM ET, while we’ll have to wait until 10:30 PM ET for MIN/PHX. We’ve got a long night of hoops ahead. Good thing it’s not a school night. Let’s win some cash over at PrizePicks, shall we?

NBA PrizePicks Predictions Today

T.J. McConnell More/Less Than 17 Fantasy Points

Tyrese Haliburton earned a rightful All-Star spot this season, but his primary backup enjoyed a stellar campaign of his own. T.J. McConnell averaged a career-high 10.2 points along with 5.5 assists per game for Indiana despite playing only 18.2 minutes a night. After getting up to 20 minutes per game in the final handful of regular-season games, McConnell is logging 17.5 minutes per game through the first 2 games of this series against Milwaukee.

McConnell is 32 years old, undersized, and isn’t really much of a shooter. In spite of all of that, he manages to put fantasy points on the board at a truly incredible rate. The ex-Sixer contributed 1.31 DK points per minute during the regular season. To compare, noted fantasy dynamo Pascal Siakam has gotten 1.23 DK points per minute after his arrival in Indiana.

Clearly, McConnell doesn’t need to play 25-30 minutes in order to put up an impressive fantasy score. The Bucks have done a decent job of limiting him so far in this series, but we also have McConnell projected to play another 18 minutes in the Pacers’ first home game of the series. 18 minutes at (or near) his typical 1.3 FP/minute rate should be more than enough for McConnell to top 17 fantasy points this evening…er, afternoon.

Rudy Gobert More/Less Than 25.5 Points + Rebounds

The Wolves are up 2-0 on the Suns thanks, in no small part, to the continued and understated excellence of Rudy Gobert. A supposedly high-powered Suns offense has been held to an average of just 94 points per game on about 44% shooting from the field through 2 games.

Anthony Edwards may be the driving force in Minnesota’s rapid rise in recent years, but Gobert has settled in nicely in his 2nd year with the team. During the regular season, the Stifle Tower averaged 14 points, 12.9 rebounds, and better than 2 blocks per game. Gobert isn’t a high-usage player by any means, but he has scored 32 points with 25 rebounds through Games 1 and 2. He finished 5th in the league in total double-doubles this year too.

Just about all of Gobert’s offensive contributions occur at the rim, so he’s awfully efficient with the looks he does get. I like him to enjoy another solid night in Game 3 at the expense of Jusuf Nurkic and the rest of the Suns’ underwhelming frontcourt.

PJ Washington More/Less Than 5.5 Rebounds

The Mavs’ rotation beyond Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving isn’t all that consistent. Jason Kidd tends to ride the hot hand when it comes to his non-star rotation players, though PJ Washington is really the only exception. Dallas clearly values Washington’s floor spacing as well as his defensive length, particularly in a matchup against a Clippers team with no shortage of offensive-minded wings.

Washington was routinely playing 36+ minutes in competitive games down the stretch of the regular season, a trend that has continued into the playoffs. He played 37 minutes in Game 1 despite the contest having been a blowout, while he followed that up with a 35-minute effort in Game 2. Washington is also a decent-enough rebounder for his size, as he contributed 5.6 rebounds per game during the regular season.

The minutes alone give me confidence in Washington to hit the boards with some gusto again tonight. He grabbed 6 and 7 rebounds, respectively, in Games 1 and 2.
