NBA PrizePicks Predictions Today

Wendell Carter – 12.5 Points + Assists

It’s been a strange season for Carter, who’s been in and out of the lineup. Carter missed significant time with injury, and, upon his return, it appeared as though he’d lost the starting center job to Goga Bitadze. Over the past couple of weeks, however, Carter seems to have won the job back, while Bitadze is now logging DNP-CDs on a nightly basis.

Carter’s only averaging about 26 minutes per game this month, but he’s logged at least 29 minutes in 3 of the Magic’s last 5 games. The 2 games in which he didn’t get there were blowouts. Tonight, our projections have Carter projected to play 30 minutes in a game against the Spurs with a tight 5-point spread.

Carter isn’t a major source of usage in Orlando with Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner healthy, and his average of just 1.6 assists per game leaves plenty to be desired. With this pick, we’ll have to lean pretty heavily on Carter to score enough points to nudge past the 12.5 combined points + assists threshold. Given the pace-up spot against a middling defensive team in Sacramento, I like his chances.

Brook Lopez – 5.5 Rebounds

Despite his status as a lumbering 7’1” behemoth, Lopez isn’t a particularly good rebounder. The Stanford product is averaging just 6.2 rebounds per game for his career, and he’s down to 5.5 his season. Fortunately for the Bucks, they happen to have a guy named Giannis Antetokounmpo there to clean up the glass.

Even with his mediocre overall numbers on the boards, Lopez will still spike a big rebounding game on occasion. He’s actually grabbed at least 9 rebounds in 4 of the last 6 games, and tonight’s matchup against the Blazers is a good one. Portland is just 24th in team rebound rate this season, and they’re down at 26th in defensive rebound rate.

The Blazers are also the worst shooting team in the league, so there should be plenty of rebounds available for Lopez and the rest of the Bucks. Portland’s converting just 43.8% of their field goal attempts this season.

Ayo Dosunmu – 16.5 Points + Assists

Dosunmu isn’t one of the household names populating the Bulls roster, but the young guard has played his way into a big role this season. He has been particularly involved of late with Chicago dealing with so many injuries on the wing. All of Zach LaVine, Patrick Williams, Torrey Craig, and Dalen Terry are expected to be missing from the lineup tonight when the team hosts the Hornets.

Charlotte, of course, is one of the worst defensive teams in the league and a matchup we’ve been happily picking on all season. Steve Clifford’s bunch enters play on Wednesday ranked dead last in the league in defensive efficiency.

Dosunmu has started the past couple of games with LaVine and Williams out, so we can expect the same arrangement tonight. He has topped 30 minutes in 4 straight games, including a 39-minute effort last night against the Raptors. Dosunmu will be pretty reliant on scoring, with Coby White and DeMar DeRozan doing more of the facilitating, but the matchup is favorable enough to give me confidence.
