RG Newsletter #7: DFS/Betting Community News, Stats, Trends, And More!
Hey Grinders!
What’s better than a game-tying Hail Mary? How about a game-tying Hail Mary from the third-string quarterback, then going on to win the game in 2OT on a pick 6. Crazy win for Tulsa, especially if you bet on them to cover (closed at -5).
As always, hit us up on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook if you have something you want to see in this space!

HE TURNED $300 INTO $300K
It’s safe to say JSlock is on a heater. In Week 8, he chopped first place in a SNF $300K GPP on DraftKings, then split first again in the MNF Milly Maker. In Week 9, he won the $300K Early Only Rush. And for good measure, he took down the $35K Chop Block in Week 10.
In all, he’s turned $300 into over $300K in November. JSlock signed up for our Combo: Core4+Specialist subscription on Nov. 1. He was kind enough to share why he signed up and his experience so far.
What led you to sign up for a RotoGrinders subscription?
JSlock: In the past I had deposited money multiple times into DraftKings but never really found much success. I knew I had a small balance in my DraftKings account and one day I just decided I was going to actually make more than a half-hearted attempt at selecting lineups. RotoGrinders was a name I had heard many times before but never really looked at in depth. After viewing the website, joining was a no brainer after seeing the amount of information available to Premium subscribers.
What would you tell people who are thinking about signing up but haven’t yet?
JSlock: My perspective after joining RotoGrinders Premium and seeing the tools, analysis, podcasts, education, and forums firsthand, is that anyone not using RotoGrinders Premium is already starting each contest off at a very significant disadvantage.
THE MENTAL SIDE OF DFS
JSlock’s story is the perfect segue into a topic that’s been popular this week and should be discussed way more often.
The DFS community is routinely flooded with testimonials, screenshots and victory laps on Twitter. And that’s great, it’s fun to celebrate the wins and highlight success in the community. We have a day dedicated to it on Twitter every week (Testimonial Tuesday). But the perception that DFS is easy, winning players are constantly winning, is just inaccurate.
It all seems like sunshine & rainbows seeing screenshots of big GPP wins. Rarely do you ever see the road that it takes to get them. I’m way more conservative with my volume & bankroll than most, yet I’ve still had downswings that many normal folks would get very depressed over.

Our own Allan Lem perfectly summed up the DFS landscape and the mental fortitude it takes to be part of the community in a blog post this week.
“On most nights, you will likely come out a loser and you know what, that’s completely normal. The math supports the idea that you will not win every night, yet some have expectations that we will win every night. I’ve had several conversations with new DFS players in the RG Discord complaining that they aren’t taking down GPPs immediately. It’s important to have realistic expectations and to have those expectations backed up by math.”
Allan touches on losing, screenshots, fear of missing out, and more. Just a great article all around, check it out HERE.
Well done
AllanLemDFS, anyone who grinds DFS should read this. The article hit home for me, especially the FOMO section. I used to struggle with anxiety over missing slates. My mental health dramatically improved once I started taking time off.</p>— Peter Jennings (

CBB TIPS OFF
It was so tough to end last college basketball season without March Madness. Fortunately, the 2020-21 season will start more or less on time, tipping off on Nov. 25.
Here’s what you need to know for the season:
- Gonzaga, Baylor and Villanova are the betting favorites to win this year’s NCAA tournament.
- Those three teams along with Virginia and Iowa round out the preseason AP top 5 rankings.
- No. 1 Gonzaga and No. 2 Baylor will square off on Dec. 5
- The NCAA tournament is scheduled to start March 16. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it may be held at a single location. Here’s a good article about Indianapolis as the possible location, and the sports betting ramifications.
CBB is one of the most research-driven DFS sports, and we have a pair of studs leading our team this year. Alex Hardin (fearmyturtle) and Jon Schiller (Varncass), the No. 2 and No. 10 ranked CBB players in our RG rankings, will have projections and expert tags for every slate this season.

THE MORE YOU KNOW
DFS Dictionary (courtesy of Nicole Valencia): Stack – A stack is 2 or more teammates in the same DFS lineup. In baseball, a stack without a pitcher from the same team can also be called a “hitter stack.” Similarly, a stack without a goalie from the same team in hockey is often referred to as a “skater stack.”
Nicole’s Knowledge Nugget: Stack up to three games in a single lineup with the NFL Quick Stacks feature in LineupHQ. A primary game stack is the quarterback’s game. A second stack will use a different game than the primary game. A third stack is similar to a second stack and provides the ability to specify a third correlation in a lineup, such as opposing pass catchers from a different game than your primary/second stacks.
Schmitto’s Sharp Money: Kansas City Chiefs @ Las Vegas Raiders +6
It’s no secret Andy Reid, like other great coaches, is tough to beat following a week off. The future Hall-of-Famer has routinely taken advantage of his opponents in these situations, winning outright in 19-of-22 regular-season games after his team’s bye week, with two of his three losses coming against undefeated teams. If you want to include the playoffs, that record is 24-5. … READ MORE

Which Steelers WR are you playing in GPPs?

This is a tough one. “Whoever has the lowest ownership” is a viable answer for sure. And hey, if they all get double-digit targets again, it won’t matter.
