Rise & Grind: Friday, February 27th

Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we sort through yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.

In Case You Missed It

What Color? – Yesterday was a crazy day. DraftKings made their huge announcement, people thought it was a good idea to fade Westbrook on a two-game slate, and LeBron proved once again he is The King. Those things are all great, but first we need to solve this debate. What color is this dress? Some people are saying blue and black. Others are saying gold and white. Let us know what you think in this forum thread. I feel like we can’t go any further until we solve this. For the record, the dress is black and blue. If you see anything else, you probably also think fading Westbrook on a two-game slate was a good idea.

Contrarian or Stupid? – Okay, maybe that was a low blow. Even if you see the wrong colors on that dress, that doesn’t make you stupid. Yesterday, TwoGun wrote an interesting article attempting to explain the difference between being contrarian and stupid. It was posted on the main page as a huge hint that Russell Westbrook was a must-play. Sadly, the news did not reach everyone. Even in cash games, Westbrook was not 100% owned. If you know someone who didn’t play Westbrook, kindly send them that link and let them know that they made a stupid move.

DraftKings FPP Store – If you haven’t already heard, DraftKings “big announcement” was a really cool VIP store. Maybe the announcement didn’t live up to the hype, but this is still a very big deal. I personally enjoyed the announcement, but that didn’t stop me from joining others in poking fun at DraftKings. Do yourself a favor. Go to Twitter and search #RejectedFPPStoreItems. You won’t be disappointed. In fact, since we are on the subject, what fun or serious item do you think is missing from the store? I think RotoKevin nailed it in this tweet. Why can’t I buy a DraftKings rake with my frequent player points?

Big Winners – Since yesterday was only a two-game NBA slate, the moderators did not post a tournament links thread in the forums. I’m sure there were plenty of Grinders who won big that I don’t know about. One Grinder that I do know about though is FantasySultan. I appreciate Grinders like FantasySultan who play for big cash but also stop by GrindersLive chat from time to time in order to mingle with us common folk. FantasySultan had a great night last night, taking first in the Baller and second and fourth in the Monster. Feel free to shoot him a thumbs up if you see him around.

On The Menu

NBA Tonight – You may want to sit down for this one. The NBA has 14 games on the schedule tonight. This is much better than the two games we were given last night. Notorious got a jump start on things by posting his First Look last night. On days like today, I genuinely feel bad for Noto. I’m sure right now he is fighting through carpal tunnel preparing the NBA Grind Down. Notorious truly is a man of the people. He does all the grunt work so you don’t have to. The other hardworking writers here at RotoGrinders will also have some NBA content for you today. RotoMonkey83 will bring you his Starting Five, Beermakersfan will deliver a Six Pack, and BritDevine has NBA GPP Plays. All of those pieces are worthy of your clicks.

#NarrativeStreet – As a regular reader of the Rise and Grind, you already know basic strategy is fine for your cash games. However if you want to win a GPP, you need to find those players with a little extra motivation. On a 14-game slate the Narratives abound. Not all narratives are created equal, though. These are the narratives you need to pay attention to. Let’s start things off with the easiest play of the night. The Trail Blazers are offering this Robin Lo-PEZ shirt at tonight’s game. That shirt is way better than a bobblehead. On the #BirthdayGame front, you have to play Meyers Leonard. If it is #revenge you seek, we have that as well. Al Jefferson will be out for #Revenge in Boston. Fire those guys up and don’t look back. Narratives never lie (unless they do).

On the Ice – With six games on the slate, tonight is a good night to drop the gloves and play some NHL DFS. I’m told by people who follow the NHL that Monday is the trade deadline. The Toronto Maple Leafs are in the middle of a fire sale. Yesterday, they traded David Clarkson to Columbus for Nathan Horton, who has been out the entire season and may never play again. Unfortunately, Toronto does not play, so you can’t take advantage of this situation tonight. What you can take advantage of though is Pepsi7’s NHL GPP plays, which will be posted later today.

GrinderLive – With 14 games on the schedule, you won’t want to miss any of the three hours of NBA programming today on GrindersLive. BritDevine and DraftCheat start things off at 3:30 PM EST. They are followed by CrazyGabey and Hoop2410 at 4:30 and then Dean78904 and Al_Smizzle at 5:30. They will likely have thoughts on how to be contrarian without being stupid, what color that dress is, and a breakdown of tonight’s NBA action. It’s basically everything you need to know about everything. Be there or be a square.
