Rise & Grind: Friday, February 6th

rotogrinders_user_23226

Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we run over yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.

PBC Preview – Someone is going to win $100,000 this weekend in the FanDuel Playboy Fantasy Basketball Championship, aka the PBC. The PBC is the holy grail of live finals. What other avenue will allow you to participate in all sorts of debauchery while competing for $100,000? Even last place walks away with $3,000. Although, if we are being honest, there are no losers here.

The Rise and Grind (R&G) wishes all competitors best of luck. If you insist that I pick a horse to back, I’m going with “wambamthankyoumaam”. Mostly, just because I’m picturing him introducing himself to Playboy bunnies by that name. Here is the full list of qualifiers and their RG ranking if applicable.

#Team G-Unit – Speaking of debauchery and live finals, congratulations are in order to former GrindersLive co-host and the original “G” of DFS, TommyG1979. The fact that Tommy doesn’t play DFS hockey wasn’t enough to deter him from dropping $1000 to participate in last night’s WFHC Qualifier on DraftKings. Sure, it was a long shot: this contest was 15 of the best, and then, Tommy. With that being said, Tommy did it his own way, rostering two different minimum priced players, and he took down first place. Feel free to troll drop Tommy a congratulatory note on Twitter @TommyGDFS.

Narratives Never Lie (Unless they do) – If #revenge is what you were seeking last night, Darren Collison was your man. After being told he would never be a starting NBA point guard by Rick Carlisle, and then being run out of town, Collison was out for revenge. Mr. Collison exacted revenge in his own way. He got hurt early on his way to a less than revenge worthy 4.5 FanDuel points. If anything, this will just make the revenge he gets next time that much sweeter. Either that, or Collison isn’t a starting NBA point guard. Who knows?

On to the Next – In researching for this article, one of the things I do is check ESPN top performers. After Dirk Nowitzki was a surprise scratch at 7 PM EST, and Bradley Beal was injured in the first quarter, I knew last night was going to be ugly. I still wasn’t prepared for what I saw this morning on ESPN. Take a look at that picture to the right. Go ahead, stare at it for a second. One of these is not like the others. I’m not going to say which, because I’m pretty sure you already know. We all should have joined TommyG and tried out hockey last night. As the great philosopher Coach Belichick would say: “We are on to February 6th.”

On the Menu

NBA Friday – After last night, you may still be a little shell shocked. I know I am. We both just need to write this one off though. It was a four-game slate and Hassan Whiteside wasn’t playing. For future reference, if you can’t get Hassan Whiteside on your team, you shouldn’t play at all. Lucky for both of us, there are 12 games tonight in the NBA. Go ahead and click on Whiteside, lock him in, then get your research started with Notorious First Look.

NBA Written Advice – Even though I just gave you the only piece of advice you need for today, RotoGrinders will still be offering additional articles for your research pleasure. A good test for these articles is to skim for a Whiteside recommendation. If he’s in there, the article is safe. If not, continue reading at your own risk. Here are some options that will be available later today: NBA Grind Down (Notorious), Starting Five (RotoMonkey), and NBA GPP Plays (BritDevine).

NBA Visual/Audio Advice – Maybe you are more of a visual learner. Maybe you can’t even read. That’s why I put pictures in this article for you. It keeps the clicks up. Lucky for you, RotoGrinders also offers advice in the form of videos and podcasts. On the menu today, we have the award-winning Daily Fantasy Fix Podcast by Dan Back. Beermakersfan will also be serving up a six pack of fantasy goodness, and three hours of NBA advice tip off at 3:30 PM EST on GrindersLive.

NHL Tonight – With five games on the slate tonight, we didn’t forget about you puckheads. Even though TommyG already proved NHL is just a luckbox sport, we will still have some advice for you. Pepsi7 will bring you his NHL Daily Plays. Whether we want to admit it or not, there will soon come a time where NHL DFS is the only option. That time is actually next Friday. The NBA will be on All Star Break for seven days. We all can’t be like TommyG and win our first try, so I would recommend getting started tonight. You will be ahead of the curve if you can already properly pronounce Vladimir Tarasenko before others have even taken a look.

It’s once again time to bid adieu for the week. Now get out there and build some lineups. And always remember, don’t get Whitesided.
