Rise & Grind: March 28th, 2014
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off on the right foot with yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the the upcoming day in the world of DFS.
Yesterday was a massive news day for the DFS industry, so kick back, grab your first cup of coffee, and catch up on the latest news!
In Case You Missed It
- FanDuel Raises the Bar – With just a few short days before the start of the MLB season, we were beginning to wonder what the baseball championships would look like this season. FanDuel was the first site to break the silence, and boy did they take it up a notch (much like the japanese game show to the right did – hey, I had to tie it in somehow)! Instead of just one major event, FanDuel has created an entire week of championship MLB tournaments that cover all the bases (pun fully intended). Whether you’re into massive GPPs, a final event that requires you to qualify, survivor tournaments, or single entry games, this baby has it all. I could write an entire column about this event, but sbk5065 already has, so check it out if you want more details.
- MLB.com Partners with DraftKings – This actually happened a few days ago, but with all the big tournaments around the industry I completely forgot to give it the attention it deserved. This is a huge move for DFS, a genius move by DraftKings, and should bring a ton of new players into the industry. Not only that, but Jonathan Bales, author of the Fantasy Football for Smart People books and major contributor to our GrindersU, has a featured article to make the annoucement and give MLB fans an introduction to the world of daily fantasy sports.
Today’s Events
- Tonight’s Action – UConn is playing tonight, which is all that really matters, but if you really must know there is quite a bit going on tonight. A massive 12 game schedule on this Friday night in the NBA with plenty of juicy matchups. But with the playoffs rapidly approaching, it becomes more and more difficult to predict who is going to play and who is going to sit. Meanwhile, there are 6 games on the ice and the last 4 games of the Sweet Sixteen to wrap up this jam packed evening.
- Today’s GPP’s – DraftKings is running their $100k MegaCrossover again tonight with the same payout structure they had a few weeks ago. $27 buy in, top 100 win $1k. Watch out, here come da trains! FanDuel is running a $70k Slam tonight with $9,000 going to first place, and DraftStreet has a $10k guaranteed at a $22 buy in. Meanwhile, the semi-finals of a lot of the CBB survivor tournaments are wrapping up, with the finals beginning with the Saturday/Sunday games.
