Rise & Grind: Thursday, January 29th

Did you win a bunch of money in the FanDuel Slam yesterday? Do you have a beard?

In Case You Missed It

FanDuel Slam Got Bearded – I’m not saying that having a beard leads to placing top 10 in the Slam, but I’m also not ruling it out. stevietpfl and his beard placed third, while CrazyGabey and his much fuller beard placed fifth and ninth. Personally, I only have a goatee, which is why I placed 151st. I’m guessing all you clean shaven people were probably down there at the cash line. If you haven’t won lately, it’s time to at least consider some facial hair.

Non-Bearded Grinder Results – While the beards dominated the FanDuel Super Slam, other Grinders had a good night as well. Ganondorf took second in the Super Baller, while neal1234 took fourth. You remember neal1234 right? This is the Grinder I told you about on Monday that crushed the $2 Shot and $5 Layup over the weekend. I guess now he is a baller and not a micro-grinder. You really can’t argue with the results, though. Nice job this week.

#SmizzLife – Normally, on a night when several Grinders have top scores, there is a reason for it. Obviously, CrazyGabey and Al_Smizzle gave out solid advice on the shows yesterday. They then used that same advice themselves. Al was close to taking down several tournaments, finishing third in the WFBC and 10th in the 3-Ball. Al gets his own blurb here because I need to highlight something about how his roster was constructed. You will notice Al has his “earliest” players at the top in the more strict positions (PG, SG, SF, PF, C) and his “later” players at the bottom, with his “last” player in Utility. If you add up Al’s player salaries, it’s obvious he made a late swap to Humphries, which left $900 on the table. I actually talked to Al about this on Twitter last night. Humphries was originally Paul Pierce, but when Hump was announced as the starter, Al was able to swap him in. This was only possible because Al left himself an out, so to speak. This shouldn’t go unnoticed if you are trying to learn game strategy.

On the Menu Today

On the Hardwood – The NBA has four games on the schedule tonight, which include MIL/ORL, NYK/IND, DEN/MEM and CHI/LAL. With an over/under of 184, the NYK/IND tilt gets the Gary Goldman Fantasy Goodness Seal of Approval. Tonight, the Rise and Grind fully endorses the first game stack. Take eight players from New York and Indiana, then sit back and profit. What could go wrong?

RotoGrinders NBA Offerings – Notorious has his initial thoughts on the four-game slate here in his First Look. Socky21 has his Starting Five based on trending stats here. Later today, Notorious will have a detailed analysis of all four games in his NBA Grind Down. Also, there will be two separate GrindersLive shows, with the first tipping off at 4:30 PM EST. Watch them all here.

On the Ice – The NHL offers an action-packed 11-game slate tonight. You know what that means right? It is time to win a trip to Vegas. Both FanDuel and DraftKings are running Fantasy Hockey Qualifiers tonight. If you are planning to join, you will want to read TheTonyM’s NHL Daily Plays here. You will also want to catch boggslite and Dooger on the Daily Fantasy Faceoff at 3:30 PM EST. Boggs and Doogs (yes, I just nicknamed them) will have their thoughts on goalies, line stacks, and top plays for tonight.

On the Hardwood, College Edition – With eight games on the slate tonight, Varncass has his College Basketball Grind Down, available for FanDuel and DraftKings incentive subscribers. You can also join in the discussion in our CBB Forum Thread.

On Another Note

Upvoting is Back – In case you missed it, Upvoting has returned to RotoGrinders. This is good news. If you agree, give me a thumbs up. Wait, actually you can’t give me thumbs up on this article, but next time you see me in the forums, show me some love. While you are at it, show some love to other members who have made valuable contributions to the site. Just remember though, once an upvote is given, it can’t be taken back. An upvote is a special moment to be shared between you and another Grinder. Once you give it, you can’t take it back. Please be careful with your late night upvoting and make sure that what you are clicking on is truly special.

I hope you enjoyed today’s Rise and Grind. I apologize if I missed any notable wins. There were several Grinders who did well. I wish I could have recognized them all. If you know of someone I missed or if you have an idea for something you would like to see here, feel free to comment below. See you tomorrow.
