Rise & Grind: Tuesday, June 16th
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we sort through yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.
In Case You Missed It
The Royal Treatment – Folks, the Kansas City Royals need your help. Yesterday, Major League Baseball announced the most recent tally of All-Star votes. Currently, only eight of nine Royals would get the nod to start in the All-Star game. Somehow Mike Trout has managed to squeeze past Alex Rios and Alex Gordon to grab one of the outfield spots. This is an injustice folks! Think about this for a minute. What are the fans voting for? An All-Star team, right? The Kansas City Royals embody every aspect of team play. Heck, the Royals almost won the World Series last year but you probably couldn’t name more than four players on the team, and I already gave you two. We don’t need players like Mike Trout starting in the All-Star game. He clearly doesn’t make his teammates better. How many Angles do you see leading the voting? Here’s how you can help right this wrong. Go to this link and vote for all nine of the Royals starters. You can vote up to 35 times per email address. If you have to, you may even need to create additional email addresses. Alex Rios is roughly two million votes behind Trout. If we all get out and vote 35 or more times we can close this gap.
Hoop, There It Is! – Speaking of All-Star performances, congratulations are in order to Hoop2410. If you regularly watch GrindersLive, I’m sure Hoop2410 has given you some winning advice at some point this year. Last night, Hoop used a little of his own advice to take down a seat to the FanDuel WFBC. If you see Hoop around ,shoot him a quick congratulatory note.
Other Winners – Hoop wasn’t the only Grinder who took home some benjamins last night. Chripe01, aka DraftCheat, also had a huge night on FanDuel. DC claimed first, third, and sixth (x2) in the FanDuel Slam as well as third in the Squeeze and fourth in the Monster. Hoop and DC did leave some cash for others though. Tinderalla took down the Monster, atstclair took down the Rally, persianguy claimed first (x2) in the Squeeze, and mazwa locked up the final seat to the San Francisco Championship.
Over on DraftKings, the night belonged to BrandonAdams, who is having quite the week. Brandon won the $250K Thunderdome on Sunday. He followed it up last night with a first and second place finish in the $500K Main Event. That’s roughly $300,000 for two days of work. Not a bad take at all. If it weren’t for BrandonAdams, the story of the night would have been SamENole. For those of you who don’t know, SamENole is in Vegas playing in various poker tournaments leading up to the WSOP. You can follow his progress here. Anyways, I guess Sam (his real name is Matt) also finds some time to play DFS in between poker tourneys. He claimed third in the $500K Main Event and fourth in the $100K Extra Innings. Right behind SamENole and BrandonAdams was MSteinberg09. He won the FBWC qualifier, took fourth in the Main Event, claimed first in the Payoff Pitch, and second (x3) in the Moonshot. Last but not least underjones locked up his usual amount of cash as well. He took down the Gold Glove and claimed second Payoff Pitch. I tried to cover the bulk of notable wins but last night offered quite a few. FanDuel Chicago Championship -Now that FanDuel has officially qualified the last San Francisco Finalist, it is time to start a new event. This morning, FanDuel announced the Chicago Baseball Championship (CBC).The CBC will run on July 12th and boast a $180,000 prize pool with $50,000 paid to first. Qualifiers start tonight at $25!
Stanley Cup Finals – Speaking of Chicago, how about those Blackhawks? The Blackhawks defeated Tampa Bay last night to claim their third Stanley Cup in six years. The presentation of the actual cup was delayed a few minutes though as the cup had some slight travel delays. Who knew that a giant piece of metal would have issues getting through airport security. They actually subjected the poor cup to one of those full body scans. I hate when that happens to me. That must have been awkward for the cup knowing TSA was looking at its naked body. Realistically, that’s probably not the most awkward thing that has ever happened to the cup though. In 1998 Kris Draper put his baby in the cup and the baby proceeded to use it as a toilet. It wasn’t a big deal though, as Draper cleaned the cup out and even drank out of it later that day.
MLB Recap – You will have to excuse me for not having a full MLB recap from last night. I rostered Carlos Rodon, who allowed five runs in the first inning, so my night ended about 7:10 EST. I spent the rest of the night breaking stuff over my knee. Okay, I didn’t actually do that, but Puig did. If you want an actual recap of yesterday’s top performances give bhdevault’s blog a read. As for the rest of us, we are moving on to tonight.
On The Menu
MLB Today/Tonight – Today isn’t your normal Tuesday for MLB DFS. We still have the usual 15-game slate, but it is split between five early and ten late. The usual Tuesday content will still be available here on RotoGrinders, but will be focused mostly on the late slate. You can still expect Notorious’ early-game thoughts in the Grind Down and incentives users will get their fix of early picks too, but just about everything else will be picks for the late games.
Narrative Street – To make up for the lack of early content, I can provide you with an extra large dose of #NarrativeStreet picks. These are the players that will help you differentiate your picks from the herd. Jonny Gomes will be looking for #Revenge against the Red Sox, Ichiro Suzuki also played a few years for the Yankess, he wouldn’t mind some #Revenge either. The biggest #Revenge bump of the day goes out to Steven Souza Jr. Remember last year when the Nationals always batted him eighth or ninth? He’s been out for revenge all year, proving he is a good hitter. He’s going to bring just a bit of extra motivation tonight though. On the #MilestoneWatch front we have a few notable achievements in play. Alex Rodriguez needs five hits to reach 3,000, Prince Fielder needs a double-dong to reach 300 Home Runs, David DeJesus and Chase Headley each need one homer to reach 100 while Freddie Freeman needs two dongs in order do the same. You can fire up any of those guys with confidence today/tonight.
Bottom Line – The U.S. Open tees off on Thursday and a few dollars will be at stake in PGA DFS. By a few dollars, I mean well over a million. DraftKings is hosting a PGA Millionaire Maker as well as a Thunderdome and several other massive GPPs. Over on Victiv, the pools are just a bit smaller but they are running a $75,000 GPP. If you want in that but can’t afford the buy-in, there is an MLB freeroll tonight. Just go to the Victiv lobby and join. If you don’t already have a Victiv account, make sure to use the RG links for one year of free incentives. To help you prepare, the premium PGA content will be posted soon, but in the meantime come join the discussion in the forums. With that, I’m out of here. Good luck out there tonight and don’t forget to vote Royals!
