Rise & Grind: Wednesday, April 8th
Welcome to the RotoGrinders cup o’morning joe. Start your day off right here, as we sort through yesterday’s happenings and take a peek at the upcoming DFS day.
In Case You Missed It
Last Chance, PGA Millionaire Maker – The field is set and the tee times are set. The only thing that stands between you and $1,000,000 is picking to correct six golfers in the DraftKings Millionaire Maker. If you do not have a ticket yet you can buy in directly for $20 or win one tonight for as little as $0.25. If you haven’t built your team yet, be sure to check out wavegoodbye’s Masters picks, PGA After Dark, and expert projections and picks located in the Daily Research tab. Since I know you love the #narratives allow me to toss a couple your way right here. No European has won the Masters this century. Also, no one over the age of 40 has won this century. Sorry Padraig Harrington, Stephen Gallacher, and Thomas Bjorn. You guys are old and un-American. We will call this the #FadeEurope and #FadeOldMen narrative.
MLB Last Night – If you played MLB last night, I hope you didn’t use the eye test to target any pitcher against the Braves. Sure that offense looks bad on paper, but they are “Latos intolerant.” Mat Latos lasted a mere 0.2 innings, while giving up six hits, two walks, and seven runs. If you have the DraftKings app, this wasn’t a “snowflake performance”. It was much worse than that, it was, this. The other value pitchers weren’t much better, as Karns lasted only 5 innings in a loss, and Jesse Hahn was only slightly better than Goldy Hawn.
Even with several blowup pitching performances, dongs were in short supply. After 29 on opening day, only seven players earned a free trip around the bases yesterday. David Peralta hit the longest dong at 437 feet, while Adrian Gonzales had the shortest at 393 feet. Rubby De La Rosa and Ryan Vogelsong tied for most dongs allowed with two each. Jake Lamb and David Peralta hitting dongs off Vogelsong wasn’t a surprise if you believe in BvP though.
NBA Last Night – People are still playing NBA right? You guys didn’t just abandon your five month relationship with NBA just to try out the shiny new sport did you? Hopefully not, last night was a perfectly logical night. Russell Westbrook played 26 minutes and scored 30.4 FanDuel points, while Gerald Henderson played 31 minutes and scored 34.1 FanDuel points. Kevin Martin also played 44 minutes and dropped 56 FanDuel points. You remember Kevin Martin right? That’s why you quit NBA isn’t it? You wanted a more sure thing like Mat Latos against the Braves as opposed to taking a risk on Kevin Martin. That makes sense to me.
Big Winners – You know who didn’t quit NBA? 2014 DFBC champion escot4. Escot took down the FanDuel Slam. Other non-quitters did pretty decent as well. Bobthebuilder1234 took down the shot, and cheddabisque took down the Baller. Over on DraftKings, mcluvin took down the 3-Ball, Crossover and second in the Sharpshooter while bobapalooza won the Sharpshooter.
In MLB, drolsen22 won the Payoff Pitch, theclone took down the Perfect Game and also claimed second in the Moonshot. In FanDuel MLB, dacoltz claimed first and second in the Grand Slam while boggslite claimed third. 3putts took down the Monster followed by ganondorf who claimed second. On the live final front, csalmon punched his ticket to the Dallas Fantasy Baseball Championship and ganondorf is headed back to the Playboy Mansion because every live final must include ganondorf. On The Menu
On the Ice – With just three games on the schedule most Grinders will skate on past the NHL contests tonight. Jmbwngfn isn’t the kind of guy to let an NHL slate go un-played though. He will have your NHL Daily plays today which will no doubt feature plenty of Columbus Blue Jackets. Give it a read later today if you are so inclined.
On the Hardwood – With thirteen games on the schedule, tonight is one of five remaining super-sized slates (more than six games). Things kick off with the possible return of Derrick Rose, which automatically starts the “when will he get injured again” clock. Notorious has his First Look posted already. Later today, things are going to get very crowded on the homepage as all the usual NBA content will be rolling in along with MLB content. Enjoy it while you can fellas because next Wednesday, NBA more or less grinds to a halt.
On the Diamond – MLB opening week continues with a 15-game slate today. Two of those games start prior to 7ET while the rest are included in a super-sized slate. You can expect all the usual MLB content today including the Grind Down, GPP Plays, Six-Pack, Daily Pitcher Report, and Daily Hitter Breakdown. RG Chief Metrorologist Kevin Roth will also have a weather report available at approximately 6:30 ET in the forums. While the Rise And Grind isn’t an advice column, I am throwing my full support behind the Brewers stack tonight. Fool me once, shame on you Brewers. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me a third time, well at some point it’s going to work out; I’m not getting off this sinking ship yet.
The Bottom Line – I mentioned the Beat the Expert freeroll yesterday. If you have a FantasyAces account through RG, check your email for a link to the contest tonight. Also, be sure to check DraftKings for various Millionaire Maker satellites. They are running in every sport at various price points and tonight is your last chance. Good luck out there tonight Grinders and as always, See you tomorrow.
