2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic Weather Forecast and Projections This Week
We’re teeing off for the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit Michigan this week, and it looks like there’s a slight but clear weather advantage to be had.
As usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps to soften and slow the course, meaning it helps as much as it hurts. With wind there’s no helpful side, it’s all negative impact, and the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the timeframe with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can use then use this to your advantage making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Weather Report & Forecast
Round 1 Weather Projection – Thursday, July 21st
Earliest tee times can expect about a 5mph wind to start, increasing to 10mph in the late morning. By the afternoon sustained winds will pick up to around 15mph, with stronger wind gusts reaching 25mph. Those afternoon winds on Thursday will likely be the highest winds we’ll see all tournament long.
Round 2 Weather Projection – Friday, July 22nd
Winds look to have a similar pattern on Friday, but with less of a peak in the afternoon. AM winds will start around 5mph, increasing to near 10mph by the late AM. In the afternoon the sustained winds will hold just a bit over 10mph, with gusts around 20mph.
Round 3 Weather Projection – Saturday, July 23rd
Fairly flat conditions throughout the day here, with winds in the 5-10mph range in the morning and afternoon.
Round 4 Weather Projection – Sunday, July 24th
Closing things out with a more classic pattern of increasing afternoon winds. We’ll have light winds to start, increasing to 10-15mph by the afternoon.
Overall Rocket Mortgage Classic Weather Forecast
My goal is always to try to avoid peak winds, and it looks like winds Thursday afternoon will peak about 3-5mph higher than Friday afternoon. That means for DFS Purposes I like a Thursday AM / Friday PM draw, and for sports betting purposes I like golfers who tee off early on Thursday (the earlier the better). Stay tuned to @KevinRothWx for the latest.
