2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic Forecast and Projections

We’re teeing off for the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit, Michigan. It looks like we have three good days for golf and one ugly one.

ComboPGAcomparison

As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try to highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Weather Forecast

Thursday, June 27th

Winds will be steady all day at around 5-10 mph. We could see a few gusts in the morning reach over 15 mph, but it’s generally pretty agreeable weather.

Friday, June 28th

Winds start around 5 mph and increase to 10 mph by noon. We’ll continue to see roughly 10 mph sustained winds with stronger gusts through the afternoon.

Saturday, June 29th

Scattered showers and storms are possible. Winds will gradually build throughout the day, and by the afternoon, we could see sustained winds over 15 mph with gusts around 25 mph.

Sunday, June 30th

We’re back to dry weather to close things out. We’ll see winds gradually build and could be gusting over 20 mph by the afternoon.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Weather Thoughts

All in all, we’ve got some nice golfing weather for most of this tournament. I have the slightest of leans towards a Thurs PM / Friday AM build, as you could end up getting the better of the wind on both days… but the difference may end up being negligible as winds are light both days. Saturday is worth monitoring both for rain and wind impacts.
