2023 Shriners Children's Open Weather Forecast and Projections

web-simpson-800x480

We’re teeing off for the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas this week, and there’s only one timeframe where the weather could be an issue.

As usual in my Golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the time frame with the lightest winds, the time with the strongest winds, and to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.

Shriners Children’s Open Weather Forecast

Thursday, October 12th

Looks a bit breezy early, with our earliest tee times dealing with 10-15mph sustained winds and gusts over 20mph. Those winds will gradually taper off through the day, and settle in around 5-10mph by the afternoon.

Friday, October 13th

Great weather, light (5mph) winds and no rain.

Saturday, October 14th

Another flawless weather day, light winds and no rain.

Sunday, October 15th

Closing it out with another stunner, 5mph winds on a dry day.

Shriners Children’s Open Weather Thoughts

As I mentioned in the intro, when it comes to finding a usable and predictable edge for PGA, wind matters a lot more than rain. In the case of the Shriners Children’s Open, the only timeframe with any legitimate wind is on Thursday morning. All things being equal I’d prefer afternoon golfers on Thursday over morning ones, though I don’t think the winds will be so disruptive that it’s impossible for early golfers to have a good round.
