Three Tips for Betting the Super Bowl

Super Bowl LIV is just a few days, and if you’re like me, you’re already placing your bets for the big game. Legal US sportsbooks have a plethora of Super Bowl markets to bet on, ranging from the coin toss to player props alongside your typical NFL betting odds. Here are three Super Bowl betting tips to consider before placing anymore bets at online sports betting sites.

Ditch the Super Bowl coin toss

Bettors don’t want to wait until kickoff for action. Don’t believe me? The Super Bowl coin toss was the most heavily bet on Super Bowl prop market at PointsBet as of Tuesday afternoon. With 74% of money and 53% of tickets are on tails, it appears bettors are sticking with the old mantra that tails never fails.

Of course, with the -102 vig (the fee sportsbooks charges on wagers) on each side, bettors are risking more than they win in a 50/50 proposition. The vig is even higher at DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook.

Look, I’m as hungry for action as the next guy, but instead of making an obviously bad bet (I have too many others to make), I’m going to a Super Bowl party and finding someone who wants to bet the coin toss as bad as I do. They can have their choice on heads or tails; I just want even-money odds. I suggest you do the same.

Bet on who you want to win

Okay, I have a caveat about laying juice/vig on coin tosses. If it’s a metaphorical coin toss and my last chance to sweat a 3-hour long NFL game between the NFL’s best quarterback and one of the league’s best defenses, then I’m all for it.

It may not be quite a coin toss, but pro bettors will be the first to tell you that it’s tough to find an edge betting on Super Bowl lines — at least when it comes to the spread and moneyline. NFL lines are already extremely efficient, and with the Super Bowl being the most popular betting event of the year, it’s typically as close to a coin toss as you can find in the sports betting world.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t spice things up by wagering on the Super Bowl. But if you’re betting on the Super Bowl for fun and pure entertainment, you might as well bet on the team you want to win, unless, of course, you’re one of those “emotional hedge guys.” Also, don’t buy ATS picks on this game.

Do your homework

That is, take the time to shop Super Bowl betting lines whether you’re betting on who will win, total number of points scored, novelty props or player props.

One easy way to see Super Bowl spreads, moneylines and point totals at various US sportsbooks is by using Rotogrinders NFL odds tool. The odds tool highlights the best lines between FanDuel Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, PointsBet, saving you time and money.

Additionally, you’ll want to take advantage of as many Super Bowl betting promos as you can. Many sportsbooks are leaving free money on the table with promotional offers. Take DraftKings Sportsbook for instance, where you can bet up to $20 on +300 moneyline for either the Chiefs or the 49ers by signing up here.

That’s just one of the many offers you can find across the online sports betting industry.

Lucky for you, we have an ongoing list of the best Super Bowl bets and promos. We tell you which ones are exclusive to NJ sports betting, Indiana betting, WV betting, PA betting and Iowa betting.

Now that you know where the free money is it’s time sit back, bet on who you want to win the Super Bowl using Rotogrinders’ NFL odds tool, and flip with a friend instead of a sportsbook.
