2024 The American Express Weather Forecast and Projections
We’re teeing off for The American Express in La Quinta, CA… and the weather is a legitimate 10 out of 10.
As usual in my golf weather forecasts, we’re focusing more on wind than rain. While rain can halt play if it’s heavy enough, it also helps soften and slow the course, which helps as much as it hurts. With wind, there’s no helpful side; it’s all negative impact. And the impact can lead to dramatic differences in scoring. My goal is always to try and highlight the time frame with the lightest winds and the time frame with the strongest winds to see if there’s a cumulative advantage for one wave over another. You can then use this to your advantage when making your picks on DFS sites and sportsbooks.
The American Express Weather Forecast
Thursday, January 18th
Perfection. Calm winds to start, only increasing to around 5 mph by the afternoon. Mild temps, no precip.
Friday, January 19th
Back-to-back with another perfect day. Winds will again be a few mph higher in the afternoon than morning, but we’re talking the difference between 2 mph early and maybe 6 or 7 mph late. It’s perfect.
Saturday, January 20th
You know the drill, perfect weather again with light winds and no pecip.
Sunday, January 21st
Closing it out with another great day. Winds are light, conditions are dry.
The American Express Weather Thoughts
As I mentioned in the intro, when it comes to finding a usable and predictable edge for PGA, wind matters a lot more than rain. In the case of the The American Express, there’s no wind, rain, or tough temps… it’s perfection at all times.
